I bought a new Remingtom 700 MTN LSS in .270 WInchester. I want to use this as the basis of a project rifle. I asked my gunsmith, who I respect, about options for a synthetic stock that would be about 8 oz lighter than the laminated wood. He suggested a Bell & Carlson synthetic with a full aluminum bedding block. It weights in at 2.25lbs and he is going to compare that to the weight of the laminated factory stock. Does anyone have experience with the Bell & Carlson? Thanks.

I don't think you'll have any problems with the B&C stock, but WHY? I too have a
Rem.700 LSS Mtn. rifle in 270Win. It's only about 6-1/2lbs. - well, okay, maybe 7-1/2 with the rings/scope mounted. The laminated stock is very stable and strong. In fact,
I sighted mine in over two years ago with some Rem.150gr. ammo, and POI hasn't
changed since. It's a good rifle - as is, and the laminated/wood stocks are quieter than
any fiberglass, and have a better "feel" to them. To each his own I guess, but I wouldn't make the change.
