I bought a NEF Handi-Rifle a while back and worked on it until I got consistent sub 1" groups at 100yds. I was proud as a peacock...and pretty cocky about it, too. I went to the range with a buddy that shoots a Ruger #1 in 22-250. He shot pretty much same-hole groups all day. Some of the groups were slightly clover-leaf shaped...but most of the time all shots were touching. That gun was one of the best shooting I've ever seen. It even shot well after several rounds, although he cleaned it a couple times while shooting.

Its a dandy varmint cartridge. Puffs small critters and shoots flat too. Generally easy to get good shooting loads also. Good selection of bullets. I think we all need a 22-250. The 6mm camp always points out that the wind drift is less on 6mm bullets, but its not enough to sneeze at when shooting varmints.

I have only owned 1 and could kick myself for selling it. What kind of varmint hunting are you going to do? (P-Dog, fox, coyote) Pick a rifle that is easy to carry and fits ya well. For a heavy barrel rifle the Winchester Model 70 Stealth shoots very well but is heavy.

Fantastic round for varmints!

We ordered two Winchester Model 70 heavy barrels and two of the Savage heavy barrels. Both Winchester's have been just a little more consistant as far as accuracy. The stock trigger was also far superior and easier to polish to a nice 2 lbs or so.

I went to buy a rem 700 vs a few months ago. A nice piece but the long heavy barrel just wasn't what I was looking for. Tried the Tikka but the barrel was to light, great for carrying all day but again not quite what I was looking for. I fell in love with the Ruger stainless synthetic #1. THat shorter bull barrel groups the 22-250 rounds where I need them. As soon as I can get some money I will get the trigger worked on, but boy I love to shoot that Ruger.

Remington 700 LHVS in 22-250. The gun shoots good, my only complaint is the trigger, it take someone with experience to tune it, but this is the case with all Remingtons. I would have bought a Browning but they don't offer it in left handed so that shorten my list of guns.

Good luck
