Shot 50 rounds today, first time shooting
 

I bought my Remington 870 Express Super Combo last week, and are family freind brought out a skeet shooter and I bought some 90ct Remington Clays at Myiers for $4.

Well it tool me 5 shoots till I hit my first target and after that I was about 50-50 for hit and miss. All I have to say is my shoulder is hurting a little. It is not were the gun was resting but just in my upper arm.

What I am wondering though I am limited by how much I can shoot in my back yard because I do not what to get to much lead shot back there becasue I am on a water way and wetlands. Is there a cheap steal shot that I can use for target shooting? I am not sure if I can order these online or not. I live in IL.

It did feel natural doing it. Except for a stiff shoulder and upper arm I am as happy as could be with it.

Thanks for your help on this board for getting me a little better setup for owning my first gun.

You aren't likely going to find the smaller shot sizes in steel.For skeet most people use #9 shot so the pattern is very dense.Also most steel loads are more powerful loads since they are intended to be used for waterfoul hunting.Thirdly steel loads usually provide tighter patterns with the same choke.The net result is that you will break less targets and feel more recoil if you switch to steel shot.

...not to mention that the gov't taxes the daylights out of steel shot, which makes it very expensive.

Lead shot does not harm waterfowl(well when it was still legal #5 hard lead really hurt the ducks bad.....). Thats just a big hoax. I suspect it was propogated by anti hunting groups disguised as folks that really cared. If they'd tell the truth, and then if they knew the wounding rate of steel since they forced steel down our throats----) I have a lot of data somewhere at home on it. If you've ever panned for gold you know you pick up lead shot with the gold. Its not on top, it goes deep quick. So a bird would have to eat it right after you shot it, or actually go dredging for it. So don't sweat it and shoot cheap lead light loads (24 gram or 7/8 ounce ) for skeet practice.
