Has anyone heard of Western field guns?
My friend gave me a gun for x-mas. It's a 30.06 bolt action rifle. The brand is Western Field, made in West-Germany. It must be an older gun. The scope on it wasnt very good, so im going to replace it. Anyways, have any of you heard of Western Field? If so, could you give me a little info? Are they good guns? I have another 30.06 thats a Remington, and its a good gun, but I dont know about this Western Field one.
Thanks, Melissa |
RE: Has anyone heard of Western field guns?
I have heard of that brand . I think it was guns made by or imported by Mossberg
It may be a comercal 98 mauser made by Vore ( guess) If so it should be a great shooter Replace the scope and shoot some groups |
RE: Has anyone heard of Western field guns?
Westernfield was the trade name for Montgomery Ward's line of firearms and outdoor gear, back in the days when Monkey Wards, Sears, etc actually SOLD such evil things as guns! Without the model number I can't tell you much. Find the model number and go to Gun Parts Corp's website and check their cross reference for house brands.

RE: Has anyone heard of Western field guns?
Western Field is the private brand of Western Auto Stores. Before the Gun Control Act of 1968 every hardware chain sold their own brands. The firearms were of course made by a real arms maker. The Sears rifles were FN Mausers and I believe the Western Field was also. If you can post a pic, we'd be able to tell you for sure.

RE: Has anyone heard of Western field guns?
Your all right the Westernfield was a Mossberg, and yes it was distributed by Monkey Ward and Western Auto.

One of the nice things about being an NRA member is that they will provide you information on just about any gun you can dredge up. Send them a good description of the gun, markings, and/or a photo and they can tell you all about it. They've been around since 1873...If they can't ID the gun for you, no one can. Only thing they won't do is put a value on it.
If any of y'all aren't in the NRA, you need to get there. I can sign ya up. |
RE: Has anyone heard of Western field guns?
Now I thought that the western auto and the JC higgins were both produced by Hi-standard????
