Anschutz 1712

I have decided to buy a high quality .22 rifle and have basically decided on the Anschutz 1712 (54 action, monte carlo stock, no sights). It runs a little under $1300... I have decided on this gun because it appears to be one of those I would hand down to my son, he would hand down to his son, etc...

I posted some at rimfire central, but over their they seem to be obsessed with the Anchutz model 54 actions, so getting anything negative about this gun is impossible! They also like the CZ's, but they are in a seperate league from the Anschutz's. Anyway, what are your guys opinions... The other ones in that class would be the Kimbers and Coopers. The Kimbers I have heard Horrible things about late and have consequently cancelled my order for one. I could still be swayed though, especially if I think I am getting a special gun with a Cooper.

Thanks...

RE: Anschutz 1712

I can't say for certain what the 1712 is like, but I can testify to "anschutz accuracy" and quality. I've been shooting an anschutz 1907 target rifle with the aluminum 2213 match stock for small bore competitions...it's rather ugly to most people, but it's gorgeous to me. This rifle is everything you could ever ask for in a target rifle. I've been shooting smallbore matches for two years now, I'm shooting 97's prone, 92's kneeling, and 86's standing very regularly with open sights. My best score to date has been a 294, a perfect prone, missed two kneeling, and missed three standing, one of which was an 8. The 10ring, in these matches is a spot like a mechanical pencil would make, and the 9ring is the diameter of a pencil, shot at 50ft.

I'd certainly recommend them, if the quality and accuracy of the 1712 is on par with that of my target rifle, then you won't be disappointed. I'd venture the wood stock is a bit more attractive than my red and black aluminum machine as well.
