Remington Classic

What does everyone think of Remington's caliber choice (.308) for the 05 Classic? I personally think they should have introduced it long before now as a classic because no doubt it is one. The .308 has long been a very popular caliber and taken it's share of game and then some. The 24" barrel makes it very attracting also and i think it will be a good seller for them. Good choice of caliber imo.

I like the 308 period and it would be nice in a 24" barrelled trim rifle.

I can think of a lot of other calibers that I would have rather seen them bring back.

I had been thinking that since you can get most of their rifles in .308 it would have been nice to see something more rare, but after looking at their list of past classics they would have had to get pretty exotic to not duplicate the list. I don't know what their critera is but maybe a .260 or a .338-06 would have been pretty cool?

I think that the 308 was a well suited round to the classic.

They shoulda used something else as that caliber can already be had in most any rifle.

308Win. for the Classic? Good choice IMO. I don't think the Classic has to be a rare
chambering, or an attempt to bring back some old or obsolete cartrigde. The 308 is
approx. 50yr old by now, and certainly one of the most popular cartridges out there.
It's sort of the father of the modern short action cartridges, too. The 308Win. is deserving of "classic" status.:D

I think a 24" barrel .308 is not a bad idea at all. The .308 is such a versatile round that it can be made to perform well with nearly any barrel length.

I bought the 2004 Classic in 8x57mm Mauser. I love it, and am having a lot of fun working up handloads for it. I sure would like to see the 7x57 and 6.5x55 again, too.
