RE: .223
i agree with proline, I own a 223 rem and a 22-250 (similar in ballistics to the 223 wssm). It is much cheaper to shoot the 223 rem than the 22-250. But both are fun. If you need the additional horsepower of the 223 wssm go for it. but there is little meaningful difference (8 inches) in the tragectories at a range out to 500 yrds
(lee "shooter" ver 3.2, 40 gr Nosler 3993fps (22-250) / 3572fps (223rem) yeilds drop of 28.10" vs 35.92" with a 250 yd zero)

5.56 x 45 (.223 Rem) Is the way to go for cheap ammo, even if you reload it will be considerably cheaper than the .223 WSSM and it still perfroms close enough that most of us wouldn't know one from the other.
Just my opinion, but I would stay away from the Mini 14 if you are considering accuracy at all. I have been through a couple in my time and neither shot worth a darn at best, many agree with me on this one. There are some that will but the mods on them alone would cost you more than a nice AR. An AR from one of the big three producers should hold at least 1 MOA at 100 yards or far better in most cases, that poor Mini 14 would be lucky to punch 1 MOA at 100 feet.

RE: .223
aborquez, I always found one of the joys to shooting something like the .223 in a bolt action and a good barrel was the decent accuracy. It also has a low report and tends not to make neighbors so nervous. You won't get fabulous accuracy with a mini 14; but yes I am certain you will hit yotes. I find the 223 wssm interesting but I have not fallen yet for these high pressure cartridges. In the varmint line, they should consume barrels pretty fast. Anyway, just some thoughts. Alot of people like autos so if you go that route, have fun! Happy New Year.
