I know this is a stupid question but i can find the answer. What is the difference between the two? is one better than the other?

don't make it so hard.

short actions have shorter actions than long actions.

it is that simple.

short actions usually take cartidges based on 308 win or shorter rounds
long actions take 30-06 or even some of the belted mags

If you really want confused, add in the newer super short actions for the wssm rounds and magnum length actions to take the big boy belted catridges!

Yep like SJ said.

Short actions for short cartridges like the 308, 243, 22-250, 223, 350 Rem mag, WSM's,
etc...

Long actions for long or "standard" length cartridges. 30-06. 270, 300 Win mag, 7mm
Rem mag, etc...

Magnum length actions for even longer cartridges such as the ultra mags and STW's.

What they said.

What it means to you is a short action gun is generally lighter, because the receiver is shorter, less steel.
