RE: the most exotic cartridge ever
Check our Cartridges of the World, or Dunleavey's handbok of Cartridge Conversions. Wouldn't consider .22K Hornet or .357 Herret as rare, the Lazeroni is a production cartridge, even if it is limited production. .338/06 Barrels and reamers are available from several sources, if you reload, it is no big deal to load for, and not terribly expensive.

I have a 8x56 Steyr mannlicher- try going to Walmart or Bass Pro Shops to buy ammo for this one, or try to find .329" bullets for it for that matter.
Also now have a Swiss K31 and another that should arrive at my house tomorow in 7.5x55 Swiss, this is another cartridge you won't find on any shelf, but at least it uses bullets in a bit more popular .308 diameter.

Want more wildcat info go to www.longrangehunting.com. Not simply folks playing but folks actually using wildcats to make fairly long shots out to 1500 yards and such. They not only need wildcats and power but have to have accuracy to boot. A good source of info.

How about .333 OKH, 9.3x74R, 9.3x74R imp., .408x74R, .338RDS, .375 RDS, .416 RDS, man, there are hundreds of them....
As for the 338-06, i built one in the 70's to try out the cal. and that rifle harvested moose, brown bear, deer, ect.... I liked it enough i built a second one on a LH Rem. action, and custom french walnut stock that i still have. With the second rifle i shot 13 big animials with it the first 3 years i hunted with it. I like it a lot, and it worked very well...
That's my 338-06 in the pict...

wow, the 22 breaking 5000fps!!
338-06 i believe would be an awesome exotic for deer whoever asked that. I'm not the type to use such a common caliber like the 270 or 30-06. When the average joe asks what I shot the deer with I want him to squint and say "huh, never heard of that before" thanks guys--31

hmmmm whats your definition of "exotic"? Is it simply a rare, extremely limited cartridge or are we talkin about sheer out power and speed?
In that case I will vote for the .375/50BMG. It actually has been tested in several guns. The typical 250 grainer was pushed too 5100fps.
Now lets talk about trajectory and energy,
