What kind of scope would you use???
I have a 300 weatherby and the scope on it is a Tasco Titian 1.5 to 6 vari power. I want a new one and i donīt know what to get. Any suggestions? have anybody heard of ATN scopes? what would you do?

RE: What kind of scope would you use???
Welcome to the board Icelander, I have never heard of a ATN scope. My opinion is buy good glass for your rifle. The bargain brands end up costing more in the end.Leupold,Zeiss,Swarovski and Nikon make excellent quality optics. Be prepared to pay for this quality. There are so many brands to choose from. I would stay away from Tasco for several reasons. Quality and supposedly out or going out of business. I've heard several negitive reports about the Simmon's line.I don't know about the quality of the new Redfield's. Since the original Redfield went out of business back in 1997 there's been allot of changes. The old ones were excellent scopes. They are now made in Japan and no telling who's making them for Redfield. I think I would stick with a Leupold Vari XIII or one from Leupold's line.Leupold has scopes in different price ranges and have a Lifetime warranty. Ask around and compare the different makes and models. Then you can decide what fits your needs and (or) budget. Ruger Redhawk

RE: What kind of scope would you use???
I have used leupold bausch&lomb, ziess and swarovski and it comes down to what your budget will allow. At the bottom end I have a bausch&lomb 3200 3x9x40 on one of my practise guns that I believe to be the best buy in it's price range .Stepping up in price I like the ziess conquest 3x9 as it is clearer and brighter than any other in it's price range. If your budget is a little more generous it's hard to beat the clarity of the swarovski a-lines.I have the 3x10x42's mounted on all of my hunting rifles.I have used leupolds a lot and they are good scopes but I feel that they are no longer the best scopes in their respective price ranges.

RE: What kind of scope would you use???
Elite 3200 or 4200 for a reasonable priced scope. I use the 4200 on my ML and it has performed flawlessly, in many conditions & situations. I highly reccomend this scope for Moderate priced offering to any gun hunter. If money is less a concern, then Leupold is my suggestion, Vari X III is as solid as they come and you won't ever feel like you made a mistake buying this scope.
Make sure you use good rings and mounts with your next purchase, like burris or leupold. |
RE: What kind of scope would you use???
Depends what your budget will handle. It's better to spend more money on your scope and maybe a little less on your rifle. In optics you really get what you pay for so spend as much as you can stand and get quality. My choice would be a Leupold in 2.5x8, 3.5x10, or 4.5x14 depending on your personal preference and needs for magnification.

RE: What kind of scope would you use???
theres no dought its hard to beat a leupold but the elite series (4200&3200)from bushnell are great scopes for less then money then leupolds.to set the record straight on lazyarchers statement, baush&lomb and bushnell have always been one and the same.b&l had three lines of scopes, elite series - bushnell and banner.the elites being the top of the line and the banners being the bottom.b&h did some research and decided that every body was familier with the name bushnell and figured it was a good move to just name every thing bushnell.

RE: What kind of scope would you use???
A 300 weatherby deserves at least a Leupold or Nikon 3.5-10 X 50.
I use a Leupold 3.5-10X50 on a Voere Titan II .308 and the Nikon on a Ruger 1-B .270, both are bright with good eye relief. Although my all time favorite is an older Redfield Golden 5-Star 2.7x9x40 mounted on old ugly (a CZ600 30.06) Heaven is best viewed from a deer stand at sunrise in the forest |
RE: What kind of scope would you use???
Whatever you choose for a brand name stay with a 40 or 42 mm lens to allow mounting it low for a better shooting position.

RE: What kind of scope would you use???
how does that trashco titan hold up under the recoil?
i have never owned a ziess conquest but i was wanting to try one out. i have heard so so remarks on the zeiss conqust but not good enough for me to change what i use now. if you got a nice expensive gun there like your 300 weatherby. i would go with atleast a VX-II in 1.5-4X20mm or a 3-9X40mm.i think they are better than the variX-II's that i already own. RE: What kind of scope would you use???
Well to tell you the trouth i have never seen the gun.... Strange? The reason is that guns here on Iceland are quite expensive if you buy them new for exampel a krico 243 with just the sight costs $1450 and Remington Model 700 Sendero SF $1505. i know itīs stupid to compare new and used. I thought i could get something cheaper someware else so i looked around and i found my wetherby in New Sealeand for less than $850 with the scope, dies, 135 rounds and some other stuff. I hopefylly will clear it thru customs today so tomorrow i can tell you how the realy is. This prosess took a few weeks but i think i am getting a good gun for that price.i know that t is not exelent or good but that was something that i would figure out later.

RE: What kind of scope would you use???
Not that I'm a Tasco fan, but I think you might find that Titan will do the job just fine. Its Tasco's top of the line scope, 30mm one piece tube, built like a tank with a Titanium inner frame, the lenses are multi coded. Its not a cheap scope to buy. You might just like it.
But if you got your mind already set on replacing it look for a used Leupold (the warranty is bullet proof) or a new Bushnell Elite 4200 or 3200 (best product for the money). Good Luck, |
RE: What kind of scope would you use???
how are those nikon monarch's? i see them for $299.00 much more than a leupold VX-II
|
RE: What kind of scope would you use???
A Leupold 2X-7X or 2.5X-8X would be about right on a .300 Weatherby.
Keep yore powder dry!! |
RE: What kind of scope would you use???
I don't know what the best scope is but I use a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40 it works for me.

RE: What kind of scope would you use???
OK got the gun today and you know what the scope is a bit better than i expected maybe tasco can make decent things after all(if you are willing to pay good money $820AU just around $430US with ring and bases) iīm going to the shooting range over the weekend so we will see how it will handle the recoil. Ooohh man these weatherbys are realy nice rifles

RE: What kind of scope would you use???
ice. i`ll agree with most on the leo or nik scopes BUT price and warranty does make a difference i use tasco world class plus scopes on all my rifles 257,3030,308,300 winn mag and 22`s they always perform flawlessly for me in rain heat of snow they usually are less than $200 in the states but the biggest plus is they have the same lifetime warranty as leo does. take it off the gun beat it burn it run over it and the folks at tasco will replace it free. i guess thats why they call it world class plus. for life. next time you need a scope give it a thot. songdog

RE: What kind of scope would you use???
Golden Ring all the way... Leupold VX II 3-9x40 says it all. Price - about $250 USD.

RE: What kind of scope would you use???
on my 300wbymag i have a leupold 4-5x14 its perfect
|
RE: What kind of scope would you use???
Quilly,
The monarchs are good scopes; I have one on my Browning Medallion. I actually prefer the Bushnell Elite though they are a bit bulky. |
