Help with new rifle
I want another rifle. I am trying to decide between a .308, .25-06, or 7mm-08. I know that I can get ammo a lot easier for the .308, but I just wanted some imput. The gun will be used for whitetail hunting only.

As a 25.06 fan than i say 25.06. But all three are excellent deer rounds. 25.06 is a little flatter shooting so better out at 400 yards. For smaller game also go with the 25.06. If larger game may be possible (back-up gun?) then the.308.

RE: Help with new rifle
There is not much chance of shooting anything larger. Coyotes is about the only other thing I would be shooting at. I shoot a 7mm mag, and I have bought a couple of other guns recently, with help from this site, and I am looking for something on the lighter side. Thanks.

RE: Help with new rifle
i went with a 308 for yotes and deer. and am very happy with my decision. 150gn ballistic silver tip for deer and 147gn surplus ammo for yote's no expantion= little holes and one dead yote. and ammo is cheap so i would say 308win

RE: Help with new rifle
I'd go with the 308Win. if what you want is a lightweight, very effective deer cartridge/rifle that can also be used on coyotes.
Any one of the cartridges you noted will do, but you don't need another long range rifle
with 24" barrel (25-06) as you already have your 7mmRem.Mag.
Of course, one argument in favor of the 7mm-08 would be that you're already using
7mm bullets - if you are a handloader. This may or may not be of any significance for you, but something to consider if you are, I guess.
I like the 308Win. I've had/have several. Very accurate, hard hitting. Surplus ammo
available - cheap. Better factory ammo selection available as opposed to either the
25-06 or 7mm-08. And, better/wider selection of rifles from which to choose.
