It all begins with proper shot placement and each has his/her own values on the rifle they shoot best with . In my area rifles are not permitted for deer , shotgun only , but non-the-less there's nothing like a 12ga slugger to do the job . Mine is my old Sako AV 30-06. It's put meat on the table every year for over 15 years. It's got a fixed 4x Leupold scope on it. About 5 years ago I painted the gun/scope in a wood like camo pattern.
