RE: 7mm-08 ammunition
Cheapest and best dont belong in the same sentence, especially when it comes to ammo... For my 7mm08, I've used Winchester ammo with great results. I've used both the failsafe's and the ballistic silvertips with great results. Both of these rounds are accurate in my gun and I trust both to do the job when I pull the trigger.

RE: 7mm-08 ammunition
It never ceases to amaze me that someone will go out and spend $500, $600, $700, or more for a rifle and scope than want to stuff it with the cheapest ammo they can find.
Buy a bunch of different brands and figure out what shoots best in that particular firearm. |
RE: 7mm-08 ammunition
portage is right the only way to know what your gun likes is to try as many as you can.

RE: 7mm-08 ammunition
I have 5 rifles in 7mm-08 my favorite ammo is hornady light mag. 139 btsp or sst all of my rifles shoot them well [less than 1"@100 yds.] also I have had good luck with federal 140 gr. nosler partitions. neither of these are "cheap" but why buy a good gun and feed it cheap ammo?

RE: 7mm-08 ammunition
Plane Jane Remington 140 grain core lockt bullets will be the cheapest and are certainly more than capeable of taking down the largest of deer. They don't cost much which leads to more range time and they were designed to perform very reliably at the velocities the 7mm-08 will be generating.
It never ceases to amaze me that someone will go out and spend $500, $600, $700, or more for a rifle and scope than want to stuff it with the cheapest ammo they can find. My 270 shoots 130 grain core lokts with excelent accuracy. So why would I need to buy a $30 box of failsafes when these get the job done perfectly every time. |

I never said that the "cheapest" may not be the best in that rifle and no where did I mention that you need to buy $30 per box failsafes. I shoot Core-lokts in both of my 308s. Not because they are the cheapest (they aren't) but because they shoot the best. I know this because I tried a number of different brands and sizes. First questions shouldn't be the cost but what is the most accurate. Here in northern Maine, I pay $10 per box for Winchester PPs, $12 for Core-lokts, $15 for Federal Premium 165 BTSPs and $19 for 180 Noslers. Not a significant difference to at least try. |

It just sounded like you were jumping his case about not wanting to spend lots of money on premium loads.
