RE: .260 Rem vs 7mm-08
Remington makes a 120 grain accutip and a 140 grain core-lokt. Federal makes a 120 grain ballistic tip and a 140 grain gameking. All for about $20 a box. For deer, I don't know why one needs more than those choices. I don't know why everybody on this board says the 260 is falling out of favor. Only remington and ruger still offer it in any of their standard lines. With remington its the model seven youth and their short mountain rifle. For ruger it's a model 77 compact. Again a youth type model. I'd hardly call a caliber thats only offered in 3 compact models from 2 companies popular. |
RE: .260 Rem vs 7mm-08
Todd, relax man. I wasn't slamming you at all! I live in Virginia and while Wally World doesn't carry any 260 ammo all the old time gun stores carry a couple different brands. I was talking to a store owner last winter and he told me a bunch (whatever a bunch means) of people are buying the 260 in the model 7 for their sons/daughters/wives/girlfriends instead of the 243. I'm sure they still sell a lot of 243s too.
Maybe different areas of the country have different tastes. I can think of two stores right here in the Richmond area that I've seen 260s on the shelf in the last couple of months. I bought a model 7 youth for my wife and retired the old 30-30. I don't think it'll ever be as popular as the 270 or 30-06, but I think the 260 will hang on. Like someone said earlier, you can order anything you want on the internet as far as ammo goes. However, the 7mm-08 is more convienient. Both are real shooters though! |

Not upset, sorry if I sounded that way.

RE: .260 Rem vs 7mm-08
i;ve been thinkin about gettin a 260rem myself. i like the oddball 6.5, from what i;ve read and seen the 6.5swede is a nice round, the 260 is a sibling in a shorter action. when i was in europe a while back, alot of folks there used it for red stag and boar (6.5swede).
personally i'd go with the 260 and if i need bigger i get the 375 out. |
