Which 7mm bullet?
 

I hunt moose, elk, mule deer, whitetail deer and sheep all with my 7mm. This obviously covers the full gammit when it comes to the size of animals and the variouis scenarios I face, as well as the length of shots. I do not re-load yet and am still buying factory ammunition. Which bullet would you recommend between the 175 grain Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Bear claw or the 160 grain Reminton A-Frame? Thanks.

Might go with the A-frame. Don't forget about the Barnes or the Failsafe either.

Yep just getcha a box or two of Winchester Supreme 160 Fail Safes and forget about ever changing anything with the rifle again, regardless of game!

Any partition or failsafe load from 140 to 160gr will easily handle any of the game mentioned.I have killed them all as well as moose and pronghorn with a 140gr partition.

Most of you are suggesting the 160 grain. Is there a reason the 160 grain would have preference over the 175 grain? The 175 grain bullet has excellent sectional density. Or does the extra velocity (minimal as it may be) give the 160 the advantage? Thanks again.

Sectional density means far less than bullet construction.A 140gr failsafe will outpenetrate a 175 gr core-lokt or partition.

My Son and one of my hunting buddies both shoot 7mmRemMags. They both shoot one bullet (which happens to be one that shoots very accurately out of their rifles - and should be the first consideration when selecting a bullet IMO). They hunt/kill deer, elk, moose, and caribou, and black bear. They both use the Win Supreme 160gr Fail-safes. This is not to say another bullet wouldn't be as good, but my point is this particular bullet does an excellent job for these two men. There are many "good" bullets out there for the man who uses factory ammo. Just find the one that performs the best out of YOUR rifle, and start hunting.

Out of a 7mm mag., the only way a 140 grain failsafe will out penetrate a 175 grain Nosler Partition, is if the 140 grain doesn't expand!!!!! I'm not even sure it would then!!!

I think you better test that one again....

my thougths exactly, it is very hard for anyone to say "Shoot this bullet cause it works for me". When someone asks "which bullet should I shoot" Everyones immediate answer should be "The one that performs best in your gun"!!! For the game you have listed, all of the bullets described here will do the job dont get me wrong, but USE the one that will give you the best hunting accuracy ( ~ 1"-1.50" groups @100yrds). One bullet I didnot hear mentioned was the Accubond 160 gr. I understand Federal loads these now, (I reload so Im not up on the Factory ammo) but the Accubond will perform as well as the other bullets mentioned here on the game you have listed.
