identify me ! please!
picked up this gun the other day. before i tell you how much i paid, does anyone know what the heck it is? appears to be a 16 gauge, ROUGH condition, but i thought the action was cool.

Are ya gonna give us a hint of what ya paid for that jewel? I always wanted an old double barrel but I have yet to see one for a reaosnable price. Nice gun BTW!

The Darne is a side by side that was made in France. A man I hunted with in the 50's and 60's had one which he "liberated" in France during WWII, so I suspect that the design is pretty old. As I recall, the one he had was heavily engraved, and looked very similar to the one pictured.
They were imported into the U.S. during the 60's and I bought a plain Jane blued one. It was 12 gauge, and very, very lightweight. Consequently. I used light loads so that I would not jar my fillings loose. It had an interesting feature in that it would remove only fired shells when the "ears" were retracted to open the breech block. The empties just fell out over the sides. It was a very fast handling little, gun, and I carried it a lot when I hunted grouse and woodcock. I wish I had it today. |
