Browning 7mm-08
I am considering purchasing a rifle to use for both Coyote hunting and possibly Deer. I was recently looking at a new Browning A-Bolt Micro in 7mm-08. Would this be a good choice?
I was looking for input since I am not an expert on rifles/ballistics and figure this is a great place to ask since I have gotten alot of advice in the past from this site on alot of subjects! Thanks MIKE |
RE: Browning 7mm-08
I have the A-Bolt hunter in 7mm-08. It is one of the best cartidges around. Flatter shooting than the 308, less recoil than the 270...Great energy down range. It's actually about the ballistic twin of the 30-06 (if you compare the 140 gr. to the -06's 165 gr.) It's really hard to beat in a short action. The 7mm bullet is wildly available for reloading as well.
I think you would be very happy with it. I also have a new Remington 7600 in 7mm-08. |
RE: Browning 7mm-08
Don't know about the Browning rifle (never fired one) but I love the 7-08 cartridge. Nice soft recoil, good ballistics, only about 200fps behind the 7mm mag.
Good luck |
RE: Browning 7mm-08
I would look at either a 243 or a 25-06 they would be my first choice.

RE: Browning 7mm-08
The 7mm08 would be a great cartridge for this. Get some 140gr Failsafes for deer (if you like shooting them in the shoulder) and 140gr Ballistic Silvertips for coyotes and behind the shoulder ONLY shots on deer. I love this caliber, and I've used both these bullets. The first deer I killed was with a Remington Model 7 in 7mm08 using the ballistic tips, hit the 5pt square in the shoulder and he didnt go far at all, but there was no exit hole and we couldnt even find the entrance hole until we skinned him. The Abolts are nice rifles, several members of my family have them, and I wouldnt have any problem owning one myself ;)
