Bell & Carlson stocks?

Have an older Ruger 77R, 308Win., with the tang mounted safety. Considering a replacement stock, a Bell & Carlson carbalite stock for it. Any one have any experience
with these stocks? Are they a drop in? Thanks for any infor.

They are a drop in and seem to be the choice among factory rifles these days since they are less then 50% of the price of comparable hand made fiberglass stocks. Remington TI and all the Weatherby Fibermark and Accumarks are using them. I think they are an OK value for a stock , they sometimes tend to be heavier then the wood stock they are replacing but wood also varies in density as well. I would think in a heavy recoiling rifle I would rather have a McMillan or Rimrock and for a lightweight stock a HIgh TEch. But a 308 should be fine with a B&C

I second oldelkhunter. Not a big fan of B&C, I looked at a few factory rifles with their stock on it. The stock seemed a little rough, sharp edges mostly bothered me but I guess for the money their tough to beat.

I have seen two crack from recoil, one on a 375h&h and another on a 338winmag.They seem to work well on guns with less recoil however.

I have one on my Remington 7 mag. Get the stock with the aluminum plate. Should help with any recoil related cracking. These stocks are heavy though. Mine was easy to install and shoots 3/4" groups at 100 yds. I agree that they are a little rough but if you're looking for a rugged stock at a good price I think you'll be happy with the B&C.

Thanks for the quick responses. I've ordered a B&C catalog via their website. I'm hoping the catalog will give me a little better idea on the colors/finishes available.
If I go with a replacement stock I'll probably have it glass bedded to the action of the
rifle, and free float the barrel.

Thanks again.:D

I had a B&C stock on a .338 win mag once,swaped it for a houge.Nothing wrong with B&C I just liked the houge.

I have seen one crack befor also it was on my uncles .338 Win Mag. it happened this year durring antelope season,I can say this he called them and they sent him a new one overnite no charge/no ? asked.
For the money can't beat them.
