Thoughts on the 350 Remington Magnum ???

I've always been kind of been intrigued by the 350 Rem. Mag. I like the ballistics of it, especially in a light rifle. What do you guys think?

I'm looking at two different models. Both are from the custom shop at Remington.

The Model Seven MS

350 Rem.Mag. = good cartridge, much like the the 35Whelen for ballistics. Both good for about anything you care to hunt in N.America. As for the two rifles you are considering, well, what do you like most - laminated full length stock or plastic. I'm kinda' partial to the full length wood stock, even laminated. The Model 7 MS is a really good lookin' rifle.

My father in law has one just like the ks you listed, it is exactly the saem with the exception that his synthetic stock is camo. He got it from the Remington Custom Shop about 20 years ago when he lived in Alaska and bear hunted a lot. It is very light and shoots very well, but does have some recoil to it. He shoots 220 grain bullets, i think they are a core loc bullet and has shot several deer with it, it does blow through them pretty easily, but has never had one run. It is a fine cartridge for all big game out to about 200 yards maybe farther.

I am a fan of the 350-remington. I prefer the lamainted stock. I think PA Jack owns a custom shop 350-remington? I hope he will respond to this post. He has always been a big help to me in the past.

I have a remington model 7 custom KS in .350 rem mag myself. With Hornady 200gr. spire points it shoots 5/8" groups. With 225gr Nosler partitions ( my load of choice) it still shoots under 1MOA. This rifle is incredibly light and beautiful to carry all day. Very versatile and deadly up to moose. Kicks a little but really not as bad as most think. The only thing I wish is that it was a stainless steel action and barrel. The stock is by McMillan.

Does anyone know if the "vent rib" will come off the model 673? If I can remove it I may look at that one too!

I had a smith take the vent rib off my guide rifle. He did an OK job but had to fill the holes with screws and re blue the barrell. I ended up trading for the Remington CDL in 35 Whelen. The stock fit me better and has a little less recoil. Don't overlook the Whelen.

Don't overlook the Whelen.
Chopper makes a good point. The whelen will do basically all the .350 does. The advantage of the whelen is a longer action that allows 250gr bullets to be used easier than a short model 7 action. The disadvantage is that the whelan will be a bit heavier to carry.
