Trigger pull

Can any of you gun knowledgable people tell me what the "optimum" trigger pull should be for the average rifle shooter? I don't bench shoot other than to get ready for the season but I do like my rifle to be accurate.

My personal preference is 1.5-2.5lbs, but to me minimal creep and a crisp, clean break are more important than just the total pull weight. I'd rather pull a trigger that breaks at a glass smooth 4lbs with little or no creep/overtravel than a gritty 2lb trigger with 1/8" of grinding creep and another 1/8" of overtravel.

The optimum trigger for my preference is around 2lbs, smooth and short.

Everybody is different, though. A trigger that feels good to you may not feel good to me and visa versa.

3 to 4 lbs and properly adjusted for creep, etc. I have one rifle, a Rem 700, that is right at 2 1/4 lbs and have had a little trouble after shooting my others, reloading sessions. Have to really think about that trigger when hunting, very distracting. I believe it's important to feel the trigger on your finger to make a deliberate shot. Just my opinion. I'll have that trigger brought up with all my others. 3 lbs. On a typical hunting rifle, I think too light is worse than too heavy, within reason of course.

I don't like mine to light. Most of mine are set around 3-3.5#'s

If I am at a nice comfortable rifle range punching paper I sort of like a light 1.5-2.5 pound trigger pull. However, when I am out hunting, I sure don't care for much less than 3.5 pounds.

No less than 3 lbs. for hunting applications unless your one of a few that can consistantly make 250 yard plus shots. Even then, I would not go below 2 1/2 lbs.
