Howa M1500

What is your opinion on this gun?

RE: Howa M1500

Just do a search for "Howa" or "Vanguard" (same gun as the Weatherby Vanguard), this has been addressed more times than I even want to think about. General opinion of most people (me included) is that they are a heck of a rifle for the price.

I dissagree , the Howa and Vangaurd may be made in the same plant but there is where the simalarity ends .
I know 2 brothers that each bought a syn. stocked 30-06 .
Off sand bags
1 would shoot 3 -4" 3 shot groups with any ammo he tryed at 100 yds
2 would have 2 in about 1 inch and the third 3 -5 " away
Between the 2 they tryed 5-6 scopesmounts and scopes
We found that the syn stocks were compressing from tighting the action screws and shifted egg shaping the holes
The triggers SUCKED

Buy a Savage with the Acutrigger ,you will find they produce a great gun

RE: Howa M1500

No point in arguing it here...I've never shot the Savage but have heard very good things about their accuracy.

I have a Howa 1500 in .300 Win Mag, and 2 brothers-in-law have them in .308 Win, another one has one in .270 Win and another one has the Weatherby Vanguard in .30-06. They will ALL shoot 1" groups at 100 yards with factory ammo and inexpensive scopes. No one has ever had a problem with one of them. We bought ours just prior to the distributer transfer to Legacy so we got them cheaper than what they are now. We paid $290 and $310 for magnum calibers. I'm not sure what my brother paid for his Vanguard in .30-06, but his is a stainless.

Pick em both up and buy the one that feels the best to you.

I have 2 Howas I can comment on . One was an excellent shooter and judging by the test target on my new Vanguard this ought to be excellent as well.

I totally disagree with the statement above.I have fired several vanguards, howas,s&w 1500's,mossberg 1500's(all the same rifle) and all displayed comparable fit and finish and all showed similar accuracy.Having the weatherby name stamped on the receiver does not make the vanguard a better rifle. In Fact the most accurate howa made rifle that I have fired was a smith&wesson 1500varmint in .223.It averaged 1/2" groups and was easily the most accurate factory rifle that I have owned.
