Out of the box accurate bolt action
I would like to hear what brand of bolt action rifles you have found to be the most accurate straight out of the box. I'm not talking what you have read or heard but personally observed. The reason for this question is I'm looking for a new toy!! Thanks in advance.

What I would pick in this order.
FN A1 SPR Tactical Rifle 308Win: Sub.5MOA shooter out of Box Black Hills 168gr Guanteed Browning Medallion 308Win:SubMOA 45gr Varget 165gr Gameking Sako 75 SS 7mmSTW:SubMOA Federal 160gr Accubonds 3 out of 6 first groups (while breaking in cleaning between shots) Out of 6 or so Remington 700's, only one was a SubMOA shooter Out of Box 204 Ruger 700 ADL Synthectic with 40gr Hornady Rest were lucky to pull off 1.5MOA without work. After work, I could always get them to shoot. Browning BAR 30-06: Sub1.5MOA Federal 165gr Gamekings Out of box Winchester 70 Featherlite 270Win:Out of box 3 MOA factory ammo but shot 46gr 4064 and 130gr gameking subMOA (go figure, gun likes 4064) Anything less than SubMOA, and I can't detect it. I might be having a bad day, wind, whatever. Only gun that I can guarntee subMOA even on cold shot is the FN Tactical. The Sako impressed me but I just shot it last week first time. If you want a cool toy, go to Fulton Armory's webpage. They guarantee and produce all kinds of cool toys from rebuilt m1 garands, to nice M14's to AR's |

RE: Out of the box accurate bolt action
Most accurate rifles I've encountered, "out of the box" have been:
Ruger 77 MkI - 308Win. Remington 788 - 243Win. Sako carbine - 308Win. Ruger 77 MkI carbine - 358Win.:D |
RE: Out of the box accurate bolt action
Never had a 700 Remington that would not shoot under an inch with the right load. The new Ruger 25-06 has to be one of the best.

It depends on what you consider to be "accurate".
If you're content with 1.5" at 100yrds, pretty much any Ruger, Remington, Savage, Sako, Tikka, Winchester, H&R/NEF, Weatherby, Vanguard, Howa, or browning will get it done for you...even several Marlin leverguns will...and yes, these are personal observations, not just what I've heard. My hunting buddies and I try something new about every week. When it comes to beating 1.5MOA, things get a little more scarce...from factory guns, this is going to depend on the individual gun and the load you're running in it. I've got a Ruger Mark II M-77 .30-06 that will shoot snowmen at 150yrds with the right ammo (Winchester Supreme Balistic Silvertips), with the wrong ammo, it's a 15" group (yeah, 15") at 100yrds (Winchester Super-X power points). I've bought two Remington 700PSS .308's, out of box one would put five rounds into a 0.5" diameter hole at 100yrds (.2MOA), the other ran about 1.2MOA...of course, it was going to be a target rifle anyway, so it got a full action and stock job (I left the first one alone!!). I've also had a Savage .22-250 12FVSS (with the Dragnov stock) put five rounds under a nickle at 100yrds out of the box. Savage is a contender for the most accurate production guns out there, even before you consider their price. They are hands down the most accurate gun for the money. Who needs a gun to be pretty, I'd rather it shoot well than look good. |

I'm keep hearing and reading that the Savage rifles are giving all of the big 3 a very good run for their money. I like the idea of the accu trigger as well.
