Sorry guy's, need some info about taurus pistols. some friends got me into I.D.p.a type shoots & im looking for a pistol. I was told by a dealer that taurus mod. pt-911 & pt92 were 2 very good choices for my intended purpose( punching holes in paper). Any & all info would be helpfull. I'm new to handgun shooting. RE: pistols
For quite a few years now I've owned a Taurus PT-99AF in pimpadelic satin-nickel. It's been 100% reliable--not a single feed, extraction, or ejection problem (other than sending a 9mm casing down the front of my shirt once every couple of hundred rounds).
In terms of accuracy, it's about what you'd expect for a big combat handgun. Nothing stellar, but I can predictably hit the paper within a couple of inches where I'm aiming. The only downside is the aluminum frame, which makes the gun top-heavy; there's a decided sense of muzzle-flip on recoil. A good two-handed grip solves that little problem, though. I'd recommend one. |
RE: pistols
I had a pt92 a while back. My experience was pretty much the same as Moose's. Good, reliable handgun. Accuracey was acceptable, 2 1/2" or so for 5 shots at 25 yd. I guess there are after-market parts you can get to improve that. The downside for me was the trigger pull. It was rather heavy in my opinion, and you had to be paying attention in order to get good accuracy. I shot bowling pin matches with it. I liked it.

RE: pistols
Taurus makes a quality gun I like them best for making clones of popular guns for a more affordable price. From my experience with a PT-92 and PT-99 they are perfect for IDPA shoots. I use a PT-92 and a Millennium Pro PT-145 for IDPA, My carry gun is the PT-145 cant beat 10+1 rounds of the potent 45 acp in a sub compact that holds golf ball size groups at 25 feet and fist size groups at 45 feet. You might look at Taurus' PT-24/7 pistols they are a great lookin service pistol and have alot of good features to look for when choosing a IDPA weapon. Im guessin you are primarily lookin for a 9mm for punching paper the 92 or 911 would be a good choice.

RE: pistols
Have a few taurus revolvers that are S&W copies. And quality seems good& they shoot fine& where for sure much cheaper then there smith counterparts.
