7mm-08 for moose?

i was looking at teh balistics and saw that the 7mm-08 has about 100 less energy than a .308. since a 308 is a good for moose would a 7mm-08 with a well placed shot at under 300 yards take a moose?

7mm-08 for moose? I'd use 160gr. premium bullets loaded up, and suggest keep the
max. range to 200yds., 250max.

My guide in Newfoundland uses a 7600 243 win. Up there, its pretty open, and he shoots and waits for it to die. Most of the time a moose doesn't even know its hit it seems. I shot one with a 200gr nosler partition with a 300RUM and it acted like it got stung. Then it acted drunk and fell over 30 sec later. They are not as hard to take down as a elk. It depends alot on where you are hunting. In real thick stuff like alaska, I would use a bigbore something or another like a 45-70 or 35 whelen. But the dependable 30-06 looks to be the norm in all situations.

Buddy both those guns will kill a moose that far. I have killed two big moose with a 30-30 at 100yds. I think those guns will do Good luck

I have taken them with a 7x57 with 175 grain bullets. Hit the vitals and they won't go far. They usually walk away a little ways no matter what they get hit with. The 45-70 is as good as anything out there. A pilot friend of mine hit a big moose (62 inches) three times with his Sako 300 Win Mag. It walked about 40 yards then dropped.

The only thing I would use a 7mm-08 Rem. is on varmints, pronghorn, and deer. Good luck.

Aparently, as per other discussions lately, anything sub 30-06 just won't kill anything bigger than a deer or pronghorn any more.[&:]

You better go out and get yourself a 375 ultra mag or even something bigger should you come up on a lost cape buffalo.

Take your 7mm-08 and go kill a moose and enjoy the moose steaks.

The 7mm is a very popular caliber in Alaska for moose and caribou hunting. As we all know, shot placement is the number 1 factor, but a 7mm has been tried and proven effective on Alaskan/Yukon moose.

Thousands of moose are killed annualy in the Scandinavian countries with 6.5x55's why wouldn't a 7-08 do the trick?
