Good Plan. I carry my 45-70 when I need a stopper.

I have the 303 British and a takedown Savage 303 which is a cat of a different color. Old timer about like the 30-30. Don't make them anymore.

There are still a lot of people in Northern Ontario who hunt with the .303. I now live in Alberta and I personally know a few people who still hunt with a .303... I also have on numerous occations ran into natives in the field who were carrying Lee Enfields..

But I would say that the most popular caliber here in Alberta (again from my travels) is the .270. My primary rifle is the .270 and I retired my grandfather's .303 a few years back.

Cheers.

ORIGINAL: gopher slayer

i dont know where in Canada your talking about because i dont know 1 person that shoots 303, here in alberta .270, .30 06, 7mmmag, 300win mag have to be some of the most popular rounds.

check it out there isnt one person on this sight that uses one. http://www.albertabucks.com/2004harvests.htm
Would you like a list of names and addresses? Two very good friends of mine shoot their exclusivly. And I can think of at least a good twenty more, off the top of my head. I'm one of them. When you think about it, it's performance is between a .308 and an 06. If a premium bullet were offered, it would still be a great all around cartridge. As for the 7mm-08, my uncle uses his on everything up to and including moose. He has never had a problem, and has never had a need to shoot anything larger.

I shot a very big bull elk with my 7mm-08 this year, 140gr XLC, the bullet blew thru both shoulders and knocked the bull down where he stood. Dont see why it wouldnt do the same to a moose.
