Savage makes great guns. Accurate, rugged, and affordable. You can't go wrong. And the new ones come with the accu trigger. Which is better yet.

Not a thing wrong with a Savage. I prefer my Rugers but for the money you can't beat a Savage. I have a few of them myself and they are accurate and dependable.

If you don't mind a single shot you could check out the Handi rifles by NEF. They are good shooters and inexpensive. The down side is they are single shot break opens like the shotguns are. Triggers could be a bit better as well.

I haven't looked lately, but from what I can gather not all the Savages have the accutrigger, and the guns with that system are probably a bit more pricey. Like I said though, I haven't actually went and looked at any lately. I do like savages though, I used to own a 110-E 30-06, nice gun and handled recoil well to boot.

I'd take a Savage any day. You might also want to see about Remington 700 ADL and Winchester Model 70 Black Shadow. I doubt that you'd be disappointed with any one of these.

There's a lot of controversy out there regarding the Remington 710. After much thought, I decided that I do not care for them. They reportedly are very accurate, but I sure don't trust all the plastic they put in places where I am accustomed to seeing steel. This is one rifle where you have to take a close look and make up your own mind based on what your needs and shooting habits are. Some guys swear by them, I'm just not one of them.

If you can find a used rifle in good shape you might get a great deal too, just be careful that you know what to look for. Here's a link you might find helpful:

Another vote for the Savage for a low price rifle.I have a Remington 700 ADL and it's a great rifle for the money.I prefer the Ruger's but they are a little more expensive then the Savage's. Whatever you do don't get talked into a Remington 710.Nuff said on that subject.
