Which calibers/guns would you like to see brought back or made?

A couple years back I was looking to buy a 35 whelen that Ruger had out. I debated it for about a month before I said. "maybe next year!" I've been kicking myself ever since. I'd love to see Ruger bring it back..... heck I'd just love to see more whelens period.

On the 35 caliber front, I'd like to see Marlin bring back the .356 Winchester.

On the ammo front, I'd love to see Hornady start loading for the .260 remington. Maybe a 129 grain sst and a 140 grain light magnum interbond.

Just dreaming.

Oh, how I know that feeling! Same gun/cartridge too, the Ruger in 35Whelen. So, what's on my wish list. Here's a few:

Ruger 77 in 35Whelen
Ruger 77 Ultra-Light - 260Remington
Ruger 77RSI - 7x57
Ruger 10/22 laminated stock with 20" target grey barrel.
Marlin 336 in 356Win.

358Winchester in a carbine style rifle such as the Remington Model 7 or a Ruger 77.
260 Remington - a couple good factory varmint loads (with 90-100gr. HPBT bullets)
7x57 - Hornady to bring back the 154gr. load.

I would like to see the Savage 99 come back, especially in 358 Win and 250 Savage. I would also like to see a Marlin in 375 Win available again along with the ammo.

IMHO, if the old stuff was so great it wouldn't have went away.
So much to chose from now, some of which won't survive.
Guess I'm happy with what's available.

Sorry,
EKM

I would like to see Weatherby chamber the 7mm-300 Wby. Mag., but there is no real market for a cartridge between the 7mm STW and 7mm RUM. Good luck.

I would like to see more rifles chambered in 6mm Remington and/or .25-06.

Ruger 77 international in .358 win
Remington 7600 in .358 win
Sako Finnlite in .338-06

RE: Which calibers/guns would you like to see brought back or made?

I'll second the motion for the Savage 99. I bought two of them last summer and have used one in .300 savage most of the fall. Shot a bull moose, a white-tail doe and two wolves with it.

There are a number of great non-magnum deer-bear-moose cartridges it was and could be chambered in.

If you traded every 30/30 Win. or Marlin out in the woods for Savage 99s in 308, 300 savage or 250/3000, I don't think too many hunters would go back.

A CLASSIC.

Bring back the Browning A5.

RE: Which calibers/guns would you like to see brought back or made?

The Winchester 1886 lever guns. I want them in 45-70, 45-90, 50-100, all the good stuff. Maybe the 1873's, or 1885 falling block, in the original calibers. A modern design of the Spencer rifle would be cool too. There are far too many bolt guns nowadays. Wouldn't it be sweet to see some more of the old levers or single shots?

RE: Which calibers/guns would you like to see brought back or made?

Savage 99 in all of the original chamberings especially the .300Savage and the .250 Savage (.250-3000).

I'd also like to see a .32-20 marlin 1894, and a .45-90, 100, or 110 leveraction rifle, like a Marlin 1895 Cowboy AND guide gun (I've no place for the 1895 standard!)

The Browning single shot rifles. Also a decent priced rolling block and Sharps rifles. The new stuff is good to but it would be nice for the younger guys to see where it all came from. At least we are not short of Magums. Seeems like a new one comes out about monthly. I quess its good if it creates more gun nuts.:D

more 6mm's. I like the savage99s , it'd be cool to getnoe in 6mm, 260,250,7mm08ect.. also the remington 600's and 660's, CROOKED BOLT HANDLE AND ALL!!!:D

Savage 99,s in 260,7mm-08,284 win,22-250 rem,also the greats 250-300 and 300 Savage or even the 22 Hi-power.

I would love to have a Winchester remake of the Model 81 in 348 win,sporting a S/S finish with a case/coloring lever and Hammer,with 22 inch barrel.

The older non magnum calibers were great..they did the job...I found the .358 in current production in BLR...it is sweet, light, and does the job.and a lever to boot!!

I would love for the savage 99's to come back out but I dont think i would trade my marlins for them I would like having both they both serve their purposes.

asfar as calibers I would like to see commercially produced would be .30 WCF, .351 WCF , 40-65, 38-55, 457 WWM, 50-140 sharps, 22 rem jet, 357 herrett, 45 super, 460 rowland, 9.3x74R, 307 win, and 348 win.

RE: Which calibers/guns would you like to see brought back or made?

I'd like to see CCI or Remington to at least load the 5mm Rem Mag again. They sold 60,000 of these rifles in the early 70's and then discontinued the gun and ammo.
What really hurts is the introduction of the 17hmr which is basicly the same thinga the 5 was ,but the 5 used a php in a heavier bullet. It performed better than the 22mag and gave the accuracy one gets from a 22 lr.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the .30 WCF (Winchester Center Fire) the .30-30?

Not necessarily! The Mannlicher-Schoenauer, the NE-PLUS-ULTRA of all bolt-action rifles ever made in any factory anywhere on earth, was not brought back because all blueprints, design drawings, and tooling were lost in a fire. This is the one I want - in all calibers, and in rifle and carbine versions!!

Yes. It was originaly called the .30 WCF, but 30-30 more or less just caught on. I still say the original, just to get the ooo's and ahh's from folks who don't know any better!;) And as a side note, I heard that savage is working on a new version of the 99 with a synthetic stock. Though, I've heard that for a while now.

I would be happy with just bringing back the Win 94 without the stupid crossbolt safety and for remington to make the Rem 700 without the POS ILS on the bolt or excessively long throats on their short action rifles.

RE: Which calibers/guns would you like to see brought back or made?

I would like to see a .300 savage, the army was going to use it instead of the 308 but the shell would jam something like every 5000 rounds, I think I read that somewhere but don't quote me on that. This one is still around but the greatest bullet in the world the 6.5X55 swedish I would like to see more of these. .32 special would be nice to see. A nice rolling block 45-70 that wasn't big $$$ a double barrel shot gun with a single trigger and two hammers

You are correct but when the 30-30 was called .30 WCF there were different loadings then the standard these days of either a 150 or 170 grain jacketed pills, when it was called the .30 WCF there were cast lead loadings with 160, 165, 180 and 190 grain lead bullets. I would just like to see the .30 WCF headstamp used again. though the 30-30 headstamp was used way before my time I aquired a bunch of old cartridges some black powder from my grandfather with the .30 WCF head stamp.

I, too, would like to see Savage bring back the 99. It is a masterpiece of beauty and engineering and balance.
Bring back the 22 Hi Power, .250-3000, .300 Savage, and the two Brush guns. Specificly the straight stock model F TD and pistol gripped G TD. And put them in a padded case.
I'd buy several of each.

I would love to see more left handed guns. I am very happy with the options that are out there now (particularily Winchester), but I'd love to have more options :D!

Hopefully Winchester releases the .325 WSM in a lefthanded Featherweight.

Cheers,
Donavan

RE: Which calibers/guns would you like to see brought back or made?

While the .30-06 is still my hands down favorite, I like the oddball European calibers; I am glad that Ruger and Winchester offer the 6.5x55, and I just picked up a Remington 700 Classic in 8x57 mm Mauser (hope to head to the range for the first time with it in an hour or so.)

I wish that there were more bullets and loading data for the 8mm Mauser. Factory loads are anemic, understandably. The 8x57 can do nearly anything the .30-06 could do, given a decent bullet selection.

I wish that the Ruger M77 RSI came in more calibers, especially 7x57, 7mm-08, and .260.

I'd love to see more rifles chambered in .280 Remington too. This looks like an awesome caliber.

All these responses for the old Savage 99 made me think about the old .303 Savage. I wouldn't mind seeing that come back in a limited run. Of course, someone would have to start making ammo. I'd think a Winchester powerpoint (180 grains at 2400 or so would be pretty effective). My dad killed a lot of deer with that old gun.
