Slug Guns
 

Years back I bought a Hastings Paradox Rifled barrel, well needless to say , this barrel will not shoot. I have did everything I can and even emailed hastings about it ,, and with NO Reply at all back from them. I am not impressed with hastings at all and Do not Plan on ever owning another barrel from them ,as far as I can see this Company is Misleading all gun hunters with there crap of Knowledge of barrels.

I own 2 different barrels and they both have the same can of Corn shooting from what I was told.

Now ! with that off my chest

I'm looking for a Barrel for the 870 Wingmaster or another Slug Gun that has a Name for being accerate and can handle the new designed slugs on the market today.

I want that 100 + yard shooter out there weather in a 20 ga or a 12.

Does anyone have any info on Makes- Modles of Barrels or guns that is going to meet my needs ,, and what do you think I should go with if I'm starting all over building another gun a 12 or 20 ?

Are you looking for a dedicated slug gun, or something you can also pound turks with in the spring?

A few comments: if you want to shoot out to the 100 yards mark, stick with the 12 gauge. Increased Velocity = Increased torque/power at greater distances. Also equates into a flatter trajectory with less drop.

For guns, it really depends on your preferences.

BUT, if just a dedicated sluggun, look at the Ithaca Deerslayer Storm series. Fixed free-floating barrel, synthetic stock/forearm, lifetime warranty. Fully rifled barrel, receiver is drilled/tapped ready for a scope.

Will get you <3 inch groups at 100 yards with the proper Sabot slug.

I also hear great things about Browning, the new Remington SPS series, and of course Benelli & Beretta. Not sure what your price range is, but all of the guns mentioned will run you $400+.

I have two slug guns, a 12 gauge TC Encore and an 20 gauge H&R. I would heavily suggest the 20 gauge, I get better accuracy and better trajectory when shooting my 20-gauge saboted lightfields. Plus the recoil is very manageable. I see no need to go witht he 12 gauge, I have taken multiple deer past 80 yards with my 20. I took one buck at 125 yards, I hit it twice with the bullets less than 3 inches appart.

Also my 20 gauge H&R is actually a 12 gauge which has been bored down to 20, it is an extremely accurate shotgun. It is also cheap (<150). I would match it up agains ANY other shotgun out there in terms of accuracy. I like my Encore, don't get me wrong, it is a pretty gun, but all things being equal the H&R is a better gun.

I am sure that if you post a questionabout H&R guns you will here pretty much the same stuff I am telling you in referrence to how good they are even though they are cheap! I just love that gun.

Get an Ithaca Deerslayer with a rifled barrel. I had one of the old smoothies, and it shot 4" groups at 100 yards with Remingto Foster-type slugs. Ithacas are accurate!!

You can also order a rifled barrel for your gun, from Ithaca direct. Will cost you $150-200...forget to mention that before...

EDIT: You may also want to go to either Remington or Federal's sites and do a ballistic comparison between 12 & 20 gauge ammo. You'll be startled at the vast difference in both velocity and power between the two...
