Old eyes and open sights
I finally had to admit my eye sight isn't what it use to be and got reading glasses. Now I need to figure out what to do with my rifles. I have a couple with scopes but when I hunt the thick stuff or in bad weather I always prefer open sights. My trusty goto gun is a Win94 top eject but I'm having trouble see the sights, the rear sight is blurred and when I put on my glasses I can't see the target clearly.
Would a ghost ring or peep sight help or am I stuck with scopes? |
RE: Old eyes and open sights
try fiberoptics yet?? i definently believe i need glasses or something but havent got around to going in the 2 years ive been noticing i need something to help my eyes....never shot much open sights...some assult rifles...22s...pistols...but my accuracy guns are scoped....the ones i care a whole lot where my bullets are going....i used to shoot open sights better then a scope...but in the recent years i just blamed the guns...but its my eyes...i bought a flintlock last summer and couldnt see my sights for poop and i noticed..the metal all blurred together and made it hard to shoot.....switched to fiber optics this year and im shooting it like a champ.....maybe find a gun with fiberoptics and see if it will help you......its not a GREAT fix....hear the best fix is to have the rear sight moved forward or backward depending on your eyes....but the fiberoptics give you 2 colors to see....and they dont tend to blurr together like all iron was doing to me......helped me out.....good luck....ps..im 17!!!!!!!!

RE: Old eyes and open sights
Welcome to the club. I solved my same problem with a Bushnell Holo Sight. It projects a lazer holographic sight image about 30 or 40 ft. ahead of the rifle. No front and rear sight to try to focus on. Look with both eyes open and put the sight image on the target. It's lightning fast, no magnification and unlimited field of view. It won't work though on your 94. Needs a Weaver style base to mount on. I have mine on a Browning BAR lightweight .308. Best deer rifle I've ever had. I too used a 94 for years but it's retired now. gg.

RE: Old eyes and open sights
A rear peep sight will also work much better than regular open sights. I have the same problem with my muzzle loader. They don't allow any type of optical sights during muzzle loader season.
