Win mod 70 vs. Rem 700 CDL
I am trying to decide between a Win Mod 70 Classic Featherweight and Remington's new model 700 rifle, the CDL. I am leaning toward getting it in .270. Right now i'm inclined to go w/ the Winchester... but i could go either way. Any thoughts?

RE: Win mod 70 vs. Rem 700 CDL
ORIGINAL: ike1982 I am trying to decide between a Win Mod 70 Classic Featherweight and Remington's new model 700 rifle, the CDL. I am leaning toward getting it in .270. Right now i'm inclined to go w/ the Winchester... but i could go either way. Any thoughts? 22" barrel, and has a readily adjustable trigger. Bolt field strips easily for cleaning. And, IMHO, has a beautiful stock. Rem.700 CDL = push feed, four round cap., two position safety, 24" barrel, and though trigger is adjustable, it is best left for a gunsmith to do it. Also nice appearance. So, I don't know, but I think I too lean to the Winchester in this case. However, that said, my 270 is a Remington 700 LSS Mountain Rifle: Laminated stock, stainless steel 22" barrel/action. :D Either way, you get a top notch firearm. |

If your inclined to go with the Winchester, I'd say go with the Winchester. I don't have a problem with either one. They both manufacture good equipment. The .270 is a nice cartridge. The .270WSM looks nice also.

I would go with the Winchester. Good luck.

If you're getting it in .270, a relatively fast number, I would prefer the 24" barrel.

I'd take the Winchester every time!

RE: Win mod 70 vs. Rem 700 CDL
I have three remington model 700s in 243,30-06,and22-250 and I really like them alot.

I own both Winchesters and Remingtons, both are great firearms, but I'll usually reach for the Winchesters first.

I guess i'm the odd man out, I'd take the Remington.
I like the 22" bbl much better in a non mag cartridge, than the 24". The 24" just doesn't give you enough added V to worry about!! You won't see the difference on game, but you will when your carrying that longer bbl in the brush!! All of my std. Rem.'s hold 5 shells. 4 In the mag, and one if the chamber, and even if it only held 4 total, it's still more than enough!! As for the trigger, i'm only going to ajust it once, so to me that's a wash!! One thing is for sure!!! "if" you need to bed either one, the Rem. is a LOT easier to bed!! That round bottom just is easier to deal with, and i've yet to have a new out of the box model 70, shoot better than a new out of the box 700!! (in the same bbl weight and cal.) Haveing said all that, if you REALLY want a Win., get it!! AS you won't be happy later if you don't!! Drilling Man |
RE: Win mod 70 vs. Rem 700 CDL
i myself like both. remington is my favorite followed very close by winchester.
1 thing that would make me want the winchester more is if i was going to be doing a lot of walking or walking through the thick brush. because of its 3 position safty the bolt won't open up on ya. even though you only want a 270 the recoil pad on the remington is much better then the winchester's. but to tell you the truth i think your best off handleing the two and see which one feels better to you |
RE: Win mod 70 vs. Rem 700 CDL
I agree the one you want/feel right is the best choice.
Personally I prefer the 700 to the mod 70, but that is my preference. |
RE: Win mod 70 vs. Rem 700 CDL
pre Garcia Model 70 or neither... Just not a fan of either... How 'bout a Sako!?!?!

RE: Win mod 70 vs. Rem 700 CDL
pick them both up and handle them a little bit, see what you like better. That's what i did. i ended up with the Model 70 and i love it. the 3 position safety is a nice feature. We do lots of deer drives thru the brush and it keeps everything closed. Ergonomically it fits me well. the action is nice too. I also paid less for the Model 70 then they wanted for the Remington name on the 700. Mine is a 30.06 and i walked all over with it and didn't notice the 24" barrel getting in the way.

RE: Win mod 70 vs. Rem 700 CDL
I've used winnies for 15 years. This year I decided to buy a new rifle and after shopping around and handling em all I bought the CDL in 3006(see my name). I absolutely love it. 1 to 1.25 inch groups. It killed it's first deer Saturday, a nice fat doe that never took a step after the shot. I was a little worried about the portability of the 24 inch barrel but its not bad at all. I think most Winchesters now have 24 inchers except maybe the featherweight. CDL's have a great recoil pad. Buy the one that fits you best.
