Wood or Synthetic

I prefer wood myself but was just wondering about the pro's and con's of these two types of stocks. I heard wood warps but when cold, synthetics are really loud??

I don't prefer either one. I would much rather have laminate. It gives the beauty of wood with the stability of synthetic without being flimsy and loud.

For my hunting rifles I prefer the synthetic stocks.I like the Laminated stocks but none of my hunting rifles have them.Wood is effected to much by temperature, rain etc.I like the the "All Weather" configuration myself.Stainless Steel and synthetic stock.

A quality synthetic like a mcmillan is the most stable stock available. They are louder if you brush them against branches or bang them against hard objects but I personally have no problem stalking game with a synthetic stocked rifle.

I'm not fond of laminated stocks, because they are so heavy!!!!!

For me, it really depends on what i'm hunting, as to what material i use, but for most hunting i like wood best.

They are a bit heavier than wood, but I prefer a rifle with a little heft to it. Easier for me to control.

I prefer wood, especially solid not laminated, to synthetic. They are much better looking and have a better feel. They may not be as durable but scratches are a sighn of use and they add character. Synthetic is also noisy, today while out hunting, i was crawling through some brush and a thorn scraped against it and not only left a mark but also made a loud noise and of cource i didnt see a thing all day. Then again it was raining so synthetic is nice in that situation.

Wood is prettier when they are new, but a synthetic stocked gun looks new practically forever. I have a remington 870 with a synthetic stock that is about 14 years old and it still looks brand new. I'm sure it would look a little beat up by now if it were wood considering all of the brush I've taken it through.
