For the 30-06 I'd go with a standard spitzer soft point, 150gr., such as the Remington
Core-Lokt, Hornady Interlock, etc.
For the 300Win.Mag., due to the higher velocities, I'd consider moving up to a good
165gr. bullet or maybe staying with the 150gr., but using premium bullets such as
Nosler Partition, Trophy Bonded, etc.

See also lots of positive feedback about Core Lokt's. They are one fine bullet and will fit ur bill fine in 150gr for both gun!

Well, we are talking about whitetail, so let's keep in mind that a good shot will put them down pretty easily. Where I hunt 99% of my shots are within 150 yards (most probably right about at 100 yards). If this is the case, I like regular old soft points (I prefer Winchester, but I'm sure any of the factory stuff is pretty good). I'd stick with 150 or 165 grains (whichever shoots best from your gun!).

Now, if you shoot out around 200, 250, or 300 yards on a regular basis, I'd say go with the flattest bullet you can find (premium ballistic tips most likely). Again, 150-165 grains...... they're still whitetails.

Seriously, under 200 yards cheaper soft points work very well. Core-lokts, Super X, Federal classic, etc. None have let me down in 25 years deer hunting! Out in the wide open, I can see paying the extra price for premium!

Some of the deeper penetrating bullets for the 30-06 or 300 are intended for 400+ pound animals like elk, caribou, moose etc. I haven't met a whitetail yet that could take a 150 grain core-lokt soft point and walk too far if it's a quality hit.

i use 180 grain in my 30-06 because my gun shoots the heavier bullets better for some reason

If it shoots 180 grains the best, shoot 180s. I think Winchester makes a 180 grain powerpoint that's built for light skinned game like whitetails. Check their website.

Any one of the bullets you mentioned will work fine on deer; just pick the one that shoots best in your rifle. Good luck.

I'd use a premium bullet for game, they deserve a humane and quick kill. X-bullets,partitions, ect... I'd use 180s for the win mag and 150 for 30-06. I chose those weight bullets because in those calibers they are the middle road of speed vs. weight of bullet.
