Nothing like resurrecting an 8 year old thread...but I'm pretty sure the RUM's are still being produced... ;)

And I agree with Ridge...my 1000 yard deer rifle is based on a .308 Win...

I'd have to agree with Ridge about the 500 yard and under shots. Honestly I figured the RUM's would take the hunting world by storm simply they are a non belted case and produce nice ballistics down range using a good long range bullet. In Colorado we have a ton of people in our area sold on the 300 RUM. Haven't seen that many 7mm RUM's. The .338 Lapua seems to be the next big thing around here. My theory is if I have to shoot a rifle with a break and pay over $5 a shot I'm buying a 50 BMG.

Nothing wrong with classic cartridges, especially considering modern ammo.

Actually RR I load a few belted magnum cases and I like those calibers. As far as the 50 cal wouldn't own one either. There's always going to be the next best thing. I don't care for breaks though. Basically don't have any desire to have my ears blasted while hunting I get enough of that guiding. Now a target set up much different story. But for what you do with rifles I can understand that concept. I wouldn't personally buy a 7mm Rum. I don't have a need for it especially under 600 yards. Like I've always said that's a whole other world of equipment. Send me a rifle setup for that and a few thousands rounds and I'll be glad to wear out a barrel for you. HAHA
