New England Arms vs Rossi

I was just wondering what your opinion of these two in the single shot rifles for a starter gun for my son? Which one is best and why? and are they both reliable rifles?

I've looked at both, and I would say the NEF. It just looks like it is built better to me. If I get another centerfire rifle it will most likely be a NEF model. I haven't heard one bad thing about them, ever. Even the gun shop told me they were good guns. The more expensive bolt actions and semi autos have a little better triggers and shoot more than one shot, but the NEFs can be just as accurate if you don't mind being limited to one shot.

NEF all the way I own several rifles made by NEF and will add to them, I own one made by Rossi and it will be the last. I bought a .22/.410 for my son's 10th B-day. I was in a hurry ( big mistake here when buying anything). didn't really look things over carefully. The sights on the .22 are only adjustable for windage no way for elevation. It shot about a foot high at 50 yards. Ok mount a scope had to buy the scope rail ( comes with NEF) and .22 scope went to mount the scope doesn't use a standard .22 scope had to get a inch ( or 30mm) scope and weaver type rings. Ok i figured they cut a few corers on the .22 in the sight department so I looked at one in .243.... same sights. My son was tickled buy his first gun as most kids are but dad wasn't impressed.

NEF-- American made, a little higher cost, great customer service, barrel exchange program

Rossi -- Brazilian made, not sure of customer service, not sure about barrel versatility.

I'd go nef just to support the US worker.

NEF all the way. These are really great little guns. When my sons get old enough to hunt my H&R Ultra will be their first rifle- that is, if I don't buy another NEF before then. I currently own a .308 but will be adding a 25-06 barrell and probably a 12 or 20 gauge for turkey. What possibilities....

Actually they are owned by Marlin now but still made by H&R/NEF. They have been around for quite a while and are quality firearms at a good price. If I were to choose between the two it would be a no-brainer. H&R/NEF all the way.
