Best 308 factory load for deer?

Hello All!

I enjoy shooting deer with different calibers. I like the challenge. This year I'll be using a 308. What ammo do you recommend? My shots will be inside of 150 yds, generally inside of 100, and deer here weigh about 150 lbs.

Thanks,
Ths78

You didn't mention what type of area your hunting - clear or wooded or heavy brush??

I shoot a 308 and have had great success with a Rem 150 grn psp. I shoot mainly fields, or very light brush.

Good luck!!

I've had good success with the same round as x-mountie. A friend use to use my rifel in years I wasn't able to hunt and used a similar round in the 180 (or is it 185 grain) round with good success.

I switched last year to Winchester Supreme 150 grain rounds, and they are quite accurate, but I haven't shot a deer with one yet to know the end results.

All in all the Remingtons were quite accurate the Winchester Supremes were just a little better in overall accuracy.

Good luck.

Any good 150gr. to 165gr. bullet should do fine. As to brand, just pick one that shoots
good in your rifle. I've had good success with the Remington 150gr. Core-Lokt.

It makes no difference if you're hunting in brush or fields. There's no such thing as a "brush busting" bullet. Just find one that shoots well in your rifle. As others have said, any accurate 150 to 165 should work great. I use the Federal premium 150 grain Nosler ballistic tip round. I've taken a number of deer with it.

.308 is all I shoot and I found the best results with Federal Premium 165gr soft points. Though this is with my gun. Each gun is different.

I'm with diyj98- my rifle likes Federal 150 gr. Nosler ballistic tips. They shoot better than I can.

When i was using my Rem. Model 788 in .308 i really like and used the Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Bearclaws in 165 gr. They worked really well and downed several deer very quickly for me.
