slug questions
i got a rifled barrel for my mossberg auto 9200 and want to know if cheapo rifled slugs from winchester and remington will work in a fully rifled barrel. i dont know if this is a good idea or sabots are the way to go. i have used federal 2 3/4 barnes x 10$ a box slugs and they group o.k. but need to know some cheaper options. im rarley gonna need more than 50 yards. are brenekes-s any good? also has anyone tried the reduced load slugs from remington.i just didnt know if a rifled slug would work in a fully rifled barrel .

RE: slug questions
Sabot slugs are for rifled barrels. Rifled or foster slugs are for smooth barrels. You should be using sabot slugs. You can certainly try brenneke slugs though.

RE: slug questions
I have a mossberg 500 with rifled slug barrel. No matter what I tryed in that gun I always went back to the good old Federal sabot slug. They always produced good groups. I tryed the Brenekes for 3-4 yrs and found there was always an occasional flyer and groups from the 500 barrel and my Rem 870 slug gun were never that great. I've heard the same from other guys. Best thing to do is buy about 3-4 slug brands and go and shoot em up to find what that barrel likes. Sabots are the way to go in a rifled barrel!
Good Luck - Let us know what happens. There are always guys on the MB looking for info on this subject. |
