.223 balistics
does anyone know the balistics of the hordany (sp) 55 gr. .223? I need to sight one in and don't have alot of time to do it. I will only have time to shoot at a 25 yd indoot range. I'm setting it up for a guy to use yote hunting. Where should I set the point of impact at 25 yds that will make him in the kill zone on a yote at say 150 yds? The gun is a single shot H&R light varmiter with a 20" barrel.

When I zero in my Bushmater I used 1/2 inch high at 50 yards and was still on at 150 yards. I would use the same for 25 yard zero. I don't think it would be that big of a diff. The first chance you get you need to zero at 100 yards just to make sure it in on.

You can check out Hornady's website at www.hornady.com and go to their ballistics chart for info on trajectory, BUT no chart can take the place of in field testing.They should only be used as a guideline to put you on paper.

depends on the many things, including the velocity, bullet style, scope height, etc.
if you want a ballpark estimate, if the centerline of your scope is 1.5 inches above the centerline of your bore, I'm gonna say dead on at 25 yards will put you dead on at 250 yards also. It will be about 3.5 inches high at 100, top out at 4 inches high at 150, and 3 inches high at 200 yards. Probably a tad over 5 inches low at 300 yards.
Just a close approximate.

Sorry, I didn't read your whole post.
If you want dead on at 150, I'm going to say that you should hit about 1/2" low at 25 yards.
This would put you maybe 1/4" high at 50, 3/4" inch high at 100, 2.5" low at 200, and almost 7" low at 250.
It really depends on many factors tho. Hope this helps.
