Cooey Model 60- .22

My uncle gave me his old Cooey .22 since he hasn't made use of it for 30 years or something ;) It was manufactured back in the 60's, I guess. Tubular magazine (holds at least 10 longs), bolt action with a very short throw and a stubby end, very positive feeding and extraction, pretty heavy 23.75" barrel. All in all, this seems like a dandy "little" rifle. The way they manufacture the bolt with the stubby end, it alows for the exact same dimensions as a "regular" .22 but with a 3" longer barrel.

I was just wondering why I can't find any other bolt action .22's like this nowadays. It SEEMS to me to be a high quality design all around. Are there any design flaws I don't know about? Is it a perfectly good rifle that just kind of went by the way side over time?

I added a pic just to show the model I'm talking about and so you can see how it's dimensionally equivalent to a modern sporter .22 but with 3 extra on the spout.

Cooey .22
heres post from another forum i hope this helps:

I found this doing a google search for Winchester-Cooey:

The H. W. Cooey Company made guns in Toronto, Canada from 1919. Sometime after WWII the company moved to Cobourg, Ontario, Canada.

In 1961 the Olin Corporation purchased the company and changed the name to Winchester Canada.

Many of the guns after 1961 made and assembled in Cobourg can be confusing; the Cooey single shot shotgun was called the Model 84; later it was modified and the designation was changed to the Model 840.

I would guess it is at least made before 1961 due to the model name being 84 and not 840.

Tom should be able to give you a more specific date with the serial number you provided.
