Default Mossberg 500 Trophy Slugster...Opninions?

I am looking for a nice slug shotgun to hunt whitetails over here in PA. I have a rifle, but like i said i want to ad a slug only gun to the collection. After all the guns i looked at, i really like the Mossberg 500 Trophy Slugster. I have to stay i really like the looks of it. Also, i wonder why they put ported barrels on this model. I know when i shoot trap alot of guns are ported but i did not expect that on a slug gun. All i know is want want to buy a nice little deer dropping machine. What do you all think about the Mossberg 500 Trophy Slugster?

me and my best friend both have 2 mossberg 500s 12ga & 20ga each both with the rifled/canterliver barrel, and both with a bushnell trophy scope, they shot great we use 2-3/4" lightfield slugs, never had a problem with thses shotguns, or ammo. buy this shotgun with the rifled/canterliver barrel, you may find that your shotgun doesn't like lightfields slugs, and shotguns even the same models like different slugs, but with this set up use sabot type slugs. the ported barrel is for less felt recoil, but when shooting a 12ga. with slugs that ported barrel barrel doesn't help, its just a selling point.

the 500 is okay but i would go with the bolt action,695 3shots ,2in a clip 1 in the chamberthe gun is very accurte for the price i would put my up against any other slug gun

Ive only shot smooth bore style older slugs out of my mossberg 500 and verry few at that. But I would recomend the 500 because of the extended hunting season made possible by the Mossberg .50cal 500 barrel. Why just go slugin when you can extend your season in most parts. With 85 grains of Pyrodex and a 300 grain hornady sabot it shoots rather nice and doesnt really kick much at all. The muzzle loader 500 kicks less than the 12 ga slugs IMO.

Just my .02 on the matter
Peace
