Browning 10 guage anyone?

I am considering buying the Browning 10 guage shotgun for waterfowl hunting. They have one at the local hunting shop with the shadow grass finish on it. Really sharp looking. Does anybody else own this gun? Any comments positive or negative? It's about twice as heavy as my Mossberg 500 12 guage. Thanks for any info! Matt

RE: Browning 10 guage anyone?

KC10Chief,

I myself just recently purchased a Browning Gold 10 gauge for water fowling and I love it. Your right they are a tad on the heavy side but their weight combined with the gas operation really tames the recoil of the 10 gauge. I think you'll find that your Mod 500 with 3” shells will smack you worse than the Browning. The other nice thing about the weight is that once you start your swing the weight will tend to cause a natural follow-though. If you’ve ever shot Trap or done much water fowling you already understand the importance of follow-through. I do shoot a great deal of Trap and reload a ton of shot shells and the one thing I’ve learned is as you heat up your loadings you tend to “blow” the center of your patterns out. Something the 3 ½” 12 gauges seem to be famous for. I don’t think you can make a better choice than the 10 gauge for water fowling.

If you can afford the Browning, buy it, you’ll be glad you did.
