Limbsaver Slip On Recoil Pad

Has anyone here ever used or owned a limbsaver slip on recoil pad?

I was very skeptical about these pads when they first came out. I just bought a 700 with the r3 pad on it and am amazed on how much kick it does away with. Recoil does not bother me much if any but this gun feels like a 243 and its a 7Rem mag

I've used slip on recoil pads in the past, and I didn't like them. While they do a very good job lessening recoil, a slip on pad always made the gun fit me poorly. They also looked, well, UGLY, especially when I had to cut a hole in them for the sling swivel.

A properly installed permanent pad is a good option. One option I like even better is the PAST recoil shield. This is a pad that you strap onto your shoulder, available in different thicknesses from field grade (thinnest) to very thick magnum grades for the big thumpers. I use a field grade, and to my surprise it really doesn't affect the fit of the gun to me at all. It does a great job taming recoil with 12 guage clay target busting, as well as with 50 to 100 rounds of .30-06 at the bench. If I shot one of the magnum rifle calibers I would probably go with a thicker pad, but all of my rifles are .30-06 or below so this works great for me.

I have a remington 700 adl synthetic stock 300 win mag. I bought it from cabelas. 32 bucks. They have different models of guns to choose from that would replace your old recoil pad. Do a search on cabelas web page.

I shot my 300 mag this weekend with the limbsaver screw on butt pad, ive never shot anything bigger than a 270 so I wasnt sure what to expect or compare to but i was suprised. It was more of a push than kick and I shot a box of shells off the bench siteing it in and shoulder was fine. My light mountain rifle 270 punches more and harder on the shoulder than the 300 with limbsaver.

Looks like the mountain rifle weighs in at 6 1/2 lbs.

Have you considered to get the BOSS in your gun? I don't know if you can get that in the aftermarket but I'm sure a good gunsmith can port the barrel and save you from using those ugly slip ons.

Just be sure to buy a nice pair of ear muffs......:D

Thats exactly why I wouldnt port a barrell-EARMUFFS. Mine is a screw in pad. Looks just like the old one.

I installed a limb saver recoil, direct replacement of the factory pad, on my 300 Win. Mag. this fall and was shocked at how much of a differance it made. I would recommend the pad for anyone that is recoil sensative. they have direct replacement pads for most rifle make and models!

I put it on my Win. model 70, Black Shadow, which is the synthetic stock model. It was very simple, although I did have to drill one new screw hole in the stock. Some of the models need the screw hole drilled, but most don't. It fits and looks factory.
