Best scope for Remington 700 ADL under $150????

I am buying a new Remington 700 ADL .270 and was wondering what scope would you all recommend for it for under $150. Please let me know. I was looking towards a Bushnell or a Nikon.

Doubt if you'll find a Nikon for less than $150, but there are several Bushnell scopes for
less. You might want to check out SWFA website for scope prices. I've purchased from them several times over the years, and always good and prompt service.

I just took a look at the SWFA website, and noted there were several Leupold scopes available for a little more ($180 - $200 +/-). Check out the Rifleman series, and the
VX-I models. Some 2-7x variables available. :D

That Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 looks like a good one, its only 150. lifetime warranty. Nikon makes good stuff. SWFA prices arent great. there the same as everybody else. cabelas has the same prices. Heres the link to cabelas for the Nikon prostaff.

I'll be danged, a Nikon for under $150. BUT, check out the eye relief vs. the Leupolds.
Much better for the Leupold - get what you pay for I guess (as usual).;)

Take a look at the Bushnell Trophy 3-9 x 40 mm. I think they sell for about $100 and are pretty good for the price. I have this scope and think it has very good optics for the price. Nice and clear and a wide field of view with good enough eye relief for a 270. Good Luck.

dnrsports.com has the nikon buckmaster 3x9x40 which is a step above the prostaff for right around $150. Or I just bought another 3x9x40 Sightron today from them for $135 which I think might be a little better than the nikon (I have both) .. The Sightron is one piece tube and just as clear. ..BIll

Not too long ago, inexpensive scopes were made in Japan and were very good. Then, inexpensive scope were made in Taiwan and many of those were very good. Now, most scopes under $150 are made in The People's Republic of China. Some are good, while others are real junk. Hard to tell you which brand to buy, if what you are looking at is made in China!
Best thing to do, is to go to a sporting goods retailer and look at the scopes in which you may have some interest. I do not mean check out the models and buy elsewhere, I mean look at the particular scope the you may want and if optics appear to be what you need, buy that scope. I say this, because I have seen quality vary widely on optics coming out of mainland China.
Most of the advice given you, was to cut corners on the rifle and buy a quality scope. Since you have gone the other way, you will need to get lucky enough to perhaps get ahold of an inexpensive scope that will work for you. Good luck.

I just bought a Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 from Midway for about 85 bucks plus shipping. It is a decent scope for the money, but strangely enough the optics are not as clear as they are on the Bushnell Trophy 4-12x40 that I bought about 9 years ago. I am not sure if the older one was made in Japan and the newer one in China, but Steven Ashe's observations on the variable quality of mainland Chinese optics are right on the money. If you can actually look through some scopes side-by-side before buying you will be doing yourself a favor. I understand that the Bushnell Elites, formerly made by Bausch and Lomb, have excellent optics and start around $200.

A hundred dollar Bushnell will put meat on your table and will be fairly rugged also, but if you really want to live large, buy yourself a Zeiss Conquest or one of the better Leupolds. Honest to goodness, good glass will spoil you; I simply couldn't understand what all the fuss was over until I looked side by side through a Zeiss and most everything else that the Cabela's store had. I now have two Zeiss scopes and a Zeiss binocular and don't regret a penny of what I spent on them.

I would go with a Burris FullField 3-9x40, because they are Fully Multicoated. They run about $185.00, but one can find them for less. Good luck.

The Aetec by Simmons is a great scope and a great buy. I have had nothing but good success with Bushnell Trophy's. I seldom spend more than 150.00 for a scope. Never regreted saving the money. Never missed a shot because of a failing scope. I will always spend the most bucks on the rifle. A scope is great but I have shot a lot of game without one and will again. Bushnell for the money is hard to beat. They hold up well and I have had good luck with thier service though I seldom have need of customer service as the scopes hold up for years.

I bought a Nikon prostaff for 119.00+5.00 shipping from an outfit in Texas in JUly but I don't rememberTheir address. I'm very happy with the scope it is on a Browning A-bolt medallion. I found several places you could get that scope at that price.

Is anyone still making scopes in the USA? I'm kinda out of the loop on this. Last scopes I bought were 2 Tasco World Class 2x7x32's which have believe it or not turned out to be outstanding and completely trouble free scopes. I dont know where they were made..but they were bought in 96 or 97.

Zeiss Conquest scopes are assembled in the United States; the glass is from Europe, using proprietary Zeiss coatings. If you want to patronize American manufacturers, Leupold is a fine choice, with Zeiss also being a decent option.

Customer service from both companies is great.

Hudee, if there is any way possible, do yourself a favor and save your money until you can afford a Leupold VX-II or VX-III, or a Nikon Monarch. These scopes will run 2-3 times what you are wanting to spend, but I promise that you will not regret it. The extra quality and clarity are really worth the money. You can pay more (Swarovski, Zeiss, Kahles etc...) but these scopes will do everything you want except see in total darkness. Plus, they both come with lifetime guarantees that really mean something. I need a scope for one of my rifles, but I am going to wait until I can afford one of these.
Best of luck whatever you decide.

RE: Best scope for Remington 700 ADL under $150????

You may not want to follow the above advice however if it means you will miss years of hunting. There are many low cost scopes under 100.00 thast beat the hell out of not hunting until you can lay out big bucks for a scope. I hunted for the first forty years of my hunting life without a Luepold or any other scope that cost over 100.00 dolarrs. I did very well hunting too I might add. I have several(like eight) Bushnell and Tasco scopes here that are well over twenty years old and have never missed a shot or handi-capped me in any way. Its is great to buy a very good scope. I advise everyone who can to do so. However its just dumb to think you can't hunt and do well with a scope of lesser cost until such time as you feel you must move up to more costy equipment. I will be using my 6.5x55 mauser for rifle seasons this year. Sitting on top of it is a Tasco World Class 4X scope thats been there for twenty years. On my shelf here sits two new Luepold scopes. They will stay on the shelf until such time as this old Tasco gives out. That I am sure will not be any time soon. I bought a few Luepold scopes that went on close out. I never would have bought them had they stayed at the regular price. However when I can pick one up for in the price range of a good Bushnell then I do. In case I ever need them. I have nothing against the spendy scopes but I have been in the spot where they were beyond my price range. Lucky for me I did fine without them.:D

I just got an email sale notice from Natchez Shooters Supply...www.natchezss.com...

They have the Burris Fullfield 3x9 for $169.95... Regular price is $232...

That is near your price range and in my opinion is a much better value than one of the cheap scopes...

Burris, by the way, is the ONLY scope that is 100% American made... Leupold is American made all except for thier lenses, which they buy from anyone who can meet thier specs...

I consider Burris equal in quality to Leupold, and that ain't faint praise...

RE: Best scope for Remington 700 ADL under $150????

I personally have all Leapold scopes, going from 1.5-5, 2.5x, 4x, and 3-9x. All have done very nicely, with no fogging, no problems.

Last year, I purchased two Simmons $39 specials. 4 power scopes to be used on two of my sons rifles. Both rifles are Win model 88 in .308 caliber. We recently went to the rifle range and the pic shows the results. Not championship groups, but darn acceptable for 100 yds off sand bags.

I picked these Simmons because they are good "starter" scopes, and if they fall apart in the field, or the boys drop the rifle and break the scope, it is not a great loss.

The scopes have minimal edge bending when viewing a vertical surface at the edge of the scope field, and both scopes are nice and bright, with well defined reticles. Parallax when moving your head to and fro is noticable, but not objectionable.

Granted the recoil test on the scopes has been light, as the .308 is not like a magnum kicker.

Good luck

James, I didn't mean to imply that anybody should wait years until they can afford a better scope. If it means not hunting, get a cheaper scope and go to the woods. However, if at all possible, buy the best you can.:)
