Question For The Reminton Gurus ?
Got a question for you remmy guy's .I have a bunch of rem. 22 caliber rifles. My most favorite is my Model 540 X 1968 version.I am buying another one ,But it is a Model 540 XR. Does anybody know the difference between the two? I know that anything rem. makes with an X designation is supposed to be a sort of special gun .I am just wondering about the XR ........Thanks,Alton

RE: Question For The Reminton Gurus ?
I bought a 541HB 5-6 years ago but Remington quit making them. |

Jd 338, the gun is not new. For all practical purposes it is identical to my 540 X it has the adjustable stock and palm swell also the peep sites.. I remember when the 540 X came out .They were about $70.00.Now you are lucky if you can get one for $500 or $600. I was just wondering what the "R" was for?

I believe the X ment target gun, and R ment rimfire.

I've owned examples of both rifles. The XR has an adjustable stock and was made later than the X. The XR usually sells a little cheaper than the X model.
