.300 WSM ( Good or Not )?
I posted this question in the reloading section, maybe I should have posted here instead. For those of you who own the new .300 WSM are you satisfied with it and is it all it is built up to be? All the articles I have read about it really build it up. I am thinking about getting one before next deer season.

I got a few friends with them. All thiers are custom barrels. What are looking for from a bullet? They are getting subMOA accuracy. They still haven't matched velocitys that alot of people claim but I don't think they have tried more than two powders. Besides, speed and accuracy, what are you looking for?

Bigcountry mostly what I am looking for is a good caliber that I could more or less hunt soybean fields and cutovers with that would shoot flat and not kick the daylights out of you. I read that all the test rifles were super accurate. I don't want one of the lightweights though, I want a full size rifle.

RE: .300 WSM ( Good or Not )?
I really don't think its the caliber that is accurate as the luck of the draw of the rifle you pick up. I think its a cool round. I havn't had a chance to pick one up yet. But i like it that it don't kick like my 300RUM, that it is a short action caliber, and that it has no belt. Its ideal for reloader that wants long flat shots with some good energy to boot. But a 300Win mag will do about the same for most shooters.

Thanks guys and Quilly, yes I have looked at the ballistics of the .270 WSM. It is very impressive indeed and probably won't kick your shoulder off using the 130 grainers. My dad left me the old .270 that he used for 50 years before he died. If he were still alive I bet he would be going crazy wanting one of the new .270 magnums. I heard Jack O'Conner's name quite a few times when I was growing up. I love the old .270 with its FN action and it still shoots very good.

So Quilly, when you shoot the 7mm Mag, how does that compare with the 300WSM or 270WSM, in your opinion? I myself couldn't tell the difference in the two. What do you think?

7mm ammo is cheaper.
I have a 7mm Rem Mag for hunting bean fields. Its a Winchester Model 70 Laredo Long Range Hunter (Bull Barrel) with a BOSS system. Topped off with a Burris 12X32 power fine plex scope. And a Harris Bi-pod. To heavy to carry around though, it weighs 13lbs! Bigcountry, Where is Finksburg? I'm from Oldtown Md. up by Cumberland. |
