Cheap .22 pistol

I need a cheap, reliable .22 pistol. Preferably not a revolver. I dont need fancy workmanship, or fancy sights, just something that will kill a rabbit under 40 yards.

see if you can get a good deal on a used ruger Mark II... Should be under $200. Stay away from the Walther P22, mine has been a major headache.

How "cheap" are you talking? If you're talking $200 or less, I'd also have to go with the Ruger MKII. That design has changed very little since the early 50's when it came out and for good reason. Give us a price-range and we can narrow it down a little for you.

if under $400 you can look at a lot of .22's, I would start witht the Ruger .22, You can also look at the Browning buckmark, trailside, and the Berreta Nero (if you can get over the futuristic look). I don't see any reason to spend over 400 on a hunting .22.

I have had good experiences with my buckmark and would buy it over a ruger mkII. due to grip shape, mkII's luger style does not fit me well at all.

I have to agree with Propmahn. I have a Ruger MKII target model that is very accurate, but its difficult to shoot well because of terrible ergonomics. If I were to buy another .22 it wouldn't be a Ruger, it would be a Browning or a Sig.

There is the traditional Mark II which you guys are talking about then the other Mark II with the "normal" pistol grip. These are the standard in .22 pistols. Don't get me wrong the buckmark is a fine pistol as well.

If you're willing to spend 400, you ought to take a look at some High Standards. The H-D Military, Sports King, Duramatic and the GB all are under 400 and will shoot as well or better than any Ruger, Browning or Colt in the same price-range. Just a thought.

Here's proof that not all shooters are the same....I MUCH prefer the Ruger Mark II's grip/design to that of the Buckmark. I had a buckmark first, and picked up a TERRIBLE colt of some sort a decade ago, sold it quickly, and when I went in after another buckmark, I saw a flier for a used Ruger mark II for $50, call sam...so I called sam, he let me tear it apart and check it out, shot a full 500rnd brick that day, that thing was a DREAM. I've got four Mark II's now, in different configurations of course, but I love them all.

They're MUCH more pointable for me and being a predominately left handgun shooter, I found the Ruger's easier to operate than the brownings.

As far as accuracy and reliability goes, they're likely equally matched in most guns, so the real difference is in how they fit your hand.
