Core Lock Ultra's

Anyone try these out yet. I bought a box at Walmart the other nite on closeout for my 7 Mag. I am betting these are great bullets and work well on anything although they have no track record yet. I guess I'll have to see if my 7 mag digests them as well as regular corelockts

All I know is what I have read about them. Reports are that they are very accurate and hold thier own with any premium bullet out there. I have not tried them yet. I have not seen them as a reloading componet as yet either but I quess I have not really looked yet as I went on a reloading binge several months ago and reloaded a couple years supply for most of my guns.

I have used them in my 338 RUM, and they work great. I was getting anywhere from a .75 to 1.0 groups. I had the oppertunity to use the 250 gr. bullets on Oryx last year and they ended up retaining 75 % of their weight.

I will use them again.

Hope it helps.

Wow that is impressive... Based on their photos of expanded bullets they look impressive and knowing that someone actually took a tough animal with one makes me more confident in using them. Thanks

I use them in my 270 and have killed 3 deer with them. Great mushroom, good weight retention, held together perfectly, even after going through bone. I think there a great bullett, i just bought 3 boxes at walmart on close out also. 15 bucks, thats a good price.

I cant even find them yet. I also know that they were to replace the core locts because they were having many complaints on them, I myself thought they were junk. Cant wait to try the new ultra's out, or better yet I want to try their new Scirocco Bonded's out, they are showing awsome ballistics. Cant find those either, not yet anyway.

Those ultras arent replacing the corelokts. They made them to compete with some of the premium bulletts out there and they did a good job with them to. And I think the old core lokts are great bulletts. thats all i ever used to use and never had one blow up as people say. Alot of my family and freinds use them to and have had no problems. You cant beat a good ol corelokt.

I thought they were to replace them, I remember reading that somewhere but your right these are just a premium bullet to compete with others. My expierence with the regular core locts have been somewhat disatisfying even though they still killed. They seem to rarely pass through an animal even when fired from a .300 magnum, I,ve seen it several times. Anyone tried the Scirrocco Bonded bullets by Remington ?

I have killed dozens of animals with the old corelok. Reason I bought them was they were cheap and I was poor. My biggest complaint is they are rarely accurate. And if you measure thier dimensions or wieght them, you will find out why compared to a gameking. I know we will have a bunch of people getting on here talking about how accurate they are. But from my experience, its rare. I hope the ultras are better.

I agree with bigcountry, I have killed several things with the core locks... ALOT. But they never seem to be real accurate on paper out of my .270.

Inaccurate I don't know about the last batch of factory ammo I tried out was pretty darn accurate in my book. BC your kidding about Sierras on big game right? I am just trying to find out if these Ultras perform well on big game and if anyone has accuracy issues..

RE: Core Lock Ultra's

Ive never had accuracy problems out of the regular corelokts or the ultras out of my 270, I like the 130 federal sierras to on deer.

RE: Core Lock Ultra's

On deer, I think gamekings are a great balance of accuracy and terminal performance. I have great luck with em. Would I ever use em on moose or elk? No way. Partitions or my new favorite the Barnes TSX is used. The accuracy of Coreloks will work. I can regularly get 2 to 3" groups at 100 yards out of any of my rifles with factory coreloks. Like I said I used em for 15 years. But I never did care about getting one hole groups until 8 or so year ago. Now, 2" groups is a disappointment. I am not knocking the new ultras. I have yet to form a opinion on em yet.
