Tikka or Remington?
Without considering the weight, what would be your choice for a 243 rifle between Tikka's Laminated Stainless and Remington's VLS ?
I like both guns but still have to hear some comments about them to make my mind on which one. Thanks |
RE: Tikka or Remington?
Both very accurate good guns..take your pick ..I'm really not sure a Remington VArmint rifle can really be surpassed.

RE: Tikka or Remington?
Of the two I would have to take a Remington. Don't like Tikkas at all.

RE: Tikka or Remington?
I have to agree with the majority of the others. A freind bought a Tikka and it had quite a bit of plastic that I didn't care for. I like the Remingtons better.

RE: Tikka or Remington?
definately a remington. I have one in 22-250 and 243win and their extremely accurate. I dont care for tikkas. If you notice on the poll(which gun)remington got the most votes

RE: Tikka or Remington?
I've looked closely at current production Remingtons and won't buy them. Sorry. Breaks my heart. I have had several in past years. I picked up a 10 year old Remington last weekend... what a difference. The local manager at Scheel's isn't recommending current Remingtons. Actually, he had worse things to say but I will skip that here. I had a Remington in 222 that was superb. Should have kept it. Handloaded for it, accurate, cheap to shoot and low report. Anyway, if you have a chance to handle both, you make the call. I am a wood & steel man myself, and I am not a fan of synthetic anything, but Tikkas moving locally sell and shoot really well. I did see the Lilja barrel video.... but other forums are reporting Remington barrel problems, too.

RE: Tikka or Remington?
Tikkas are really nice have a awesome trigger from the factory the only thing i dont like is the bolt feels cheap and loose to much slop in it if they would tighten up the bolt a bit it would be a perfect rifle in my opinion, the slop in the bolt is enough for me to have to choose a remington over the tikka. except I would choose the tikka over the remington 710 now thats a cheap feeling gun altogether that 710 is like the jennings of rifles and anyone who has used a jennings pistol knows what i mean.

RE: Tikka or Remington?
Scheels here does not knock the new Remingtons. I have had at least one new Remington every year or two for thirty years. They all shot great from the box. This includes my last two. A 22-250 and a 257 Roberts. Both 700 ADL Synthetics. I will no longer own anything but synthetic stocks. I would go with the Remington because of thirty years of excellent service and products. I have no problem with Tikka. Just great expierence with Remingtons.

RE: Tikka or Remington?
Dry fire both guns before you make your decision... Se how the Remington fires. I personally do not like their triggers (I know they are adjustable). Yes, I agree Remingtons have a good reputation for being accurate out of the box. But Tikka is really making a name for themselves. I do think, in general, the Tikka bolt is a little rough on some I have seen, if they can fix that it would be an amazing gun.

RE: Tikka or Remington?
Well I took my new Remington 700 BDL to the range yesterday first time ever i shot it ..pretty windy because of Ivan but still a good day. With Remington 150 grain corelockt ammo it put 3 in 1/2" and just under an inch with 5 rounds. I would hate to see what it would do with a good barrel.:D
