Guage and caliber

Waaaaaay back in hunters safety, in my pre-teen years, the instructor told us the guage/ caliber equivalence. I don't remember it. Does anyone know it.

If I'm not making sense, what I mean is, the diameter of a 12 guage bore is equivalent to what measurement in inches, i.e. caliber.

Same question for all guages.

Just curiosity here, no other point to this thread.

Thanks:)

RE: Guage and caliber

12 gauge= .730
16 gauge= .690
20 gauge= .620
28 gauge= .580

These are approximate only.

RE: Guage and caliber

The actual relationship between Guage and bore size is how many lead balls that have a diameter of the bore it takes to make a pound.

12 guage= 12 lead balls of bore diameter= 1 lb.

12 gauge= .730
16 gauge= .690
20 gauge= .620
28 gauge= .580
And 410 is .410, of course, right?
