RE: pick the grumpy North American animal...
Uhhhh...another hunter with me that is slower than I am??? :D:D:D:D
Actually, I would take a semi-auto 12ga with 000Buckshot/Slugs alternated or maybe a 45-70. |
RE: pick the grumpy North American animal...
I'll go with Pro-Line,Except I would probally go with a pump.Maybe a little salt and pepper too.In case I had to eat it.[:-]

Oh, har dee har! You know, it occurred to me that when we are out, we are usually stuck with the lady we brought to the dance. So to a certain extent this is not a fair question. At the same time, my instincts are for a 12 gauge or a heavy rifle caliber.

RE: pick the grumpy North American animal...
i think id go with a 12ga......first 2 shots will be slugs...the last 3 will be 00 buck...the first 2 youll have time to think and react maybe.....the last 3 he will be up on your....butt.....and you will just want to spray lead.....00 will hit hard and have enough pellets to possibly hit something the animal needs......or maybe id go with my browning buckmark pistol in 22lr......i can dump a 10rd mag straight in the head of the bear or cat or wahtever is after me.....i dont think its going to keep coming......

Pick the grumpy large North American animal of your choice. He is wounded and in close cover, or otherwise charging. What is your equipment of preference to end this quarrel? Legal Requirement: High Power Rifle per state of Alaska I'm betting one can't go back to camp to get an alternative weapon, gotta finish the date with the one I brought to the dance in the first place.... Wounded, Heavy Cover.... Willow thicket? Close Quarters.... Say, 10 feet? 500 Nitro Express in a well fitted Double Rifle. Works in Africa for bigger and meaner, Ought to work in NA EKM |
RE: pick the grumpy North American animal...
I'm not an expert on this issue but I would deffinately favor a 12 guage with slugs. I was also thinking a marlin 45-70 or a Browning BLR in 300 win mag.

RE: pick the grumpy North American animal...
My pump 30-06 200 grain Partitions or 250 grain Barnes Originals. With this gun I am the most confident in getting off three or four shots and the ability to hit where I want. For me I couldn't do better. Plus thats what I would be carring anyway so I would have to use it.

RE: pick the grumpy North American animal...
This reminds me of the story Sheriff Jim Wilson recounted in Shooting Times when he went into the brush on hands and knees after a wounded hog. After the confrontation his buddies said they had never before heard a single action go full auto.
Choice would have to be a short bbl. 870 w/ OOBuck. |
RE: pick the grumpy North American animal...
No doubt that a pump or auto shotgun would be a good bet but would a guy have one with him while hunting other big Game. Like they said you won't have time to go home and change guns. Maybe I misread the question.

Yah, didn't mean to mislead you, James B. Just a "what if;" most of us are stuck with what we carry unless we are prosperous enough to hire help.
