Found a Beautiful Ruger 1A yesterday
 

Found a beautiful Ruger 1A yesterday in 270 absolutely beautiful. Anyone own one of these and how do they shoot? I had the 1B and 1S.
BTW this is on my top 5 list of firearms to acquire no particular order.

1. Sako SM action SS/synthetic 300 wsm

2. CZ laminated Safari in 375 H&H

3. Remington 60's vintage 270 pump

4. Ruger 1A in 270

5. Ithaca 37 featherweight 60's vintage

I never owned one, but know several people who do. The general rule is some shoot, some don't. My experiance is most #1's you see for sale don't. But don't get me wrong. most of these guys don't shoot well either. I think most guys are looking for that magic gun that will make them shoot straight, regardless of what they do. Even if the gun does not shoot well, you can make it shoot well. The obvious is to work up a good load. If that doesn't do it, a little trick is to pull the forearm off, and put a couple o-rings or washers with an o-ring under the screw holding the forearm. If that doesn't do it, the gun is possesed by evil demons. Take it to a priest for an excersision, and pray like you've never prayed before. If that doesn't work, make sure all the screws are tight and the bore is clean. I guess you can do it all in no particular order. Good luck.

I've got one in 7X57, a 1976-vintage "Liberty" model. It is a 1 MOAS shooter. I also have a 1H (or is it 1S) in .45/70, which seems to be the same rifle except for the fatter barrel. It is also a 1MOA shooter! I like them! :D


This is a 100-yard, 3-shot group from the .45/70, shooting a Barnes 400-grain Original Semi-spitzer at a MV of 2270 FPS!

Eldequello, all my number 1's have been good shooters .. If I walk away from this one it will be very hard to do..

Here's a TYPICAL 5-shot 100-yard group from the 1A 7X57, using 46 grains of IMR 4320 and the Nosler Partiton 140-grain bullet, MV 2800 FPS (a light load!!).



Aiming point - a GI black 1" target paster.

All right All right..screw the Tikka 270 I also looked at ..Number 1A it is. What kind of scope do you have on that 7x57?

An old Leupold 28mm objective 2X-7X. But I had a Lyman All-American 4X fixed-power on it when I shot that group!
